Lower steering shaft

I`m about to replace the lower steering shaft and UJ on my RRS.There is loads of help and info on here which I`ll use but can anyone advise me on replacement parts?
The prices vary so much from aftermarket to main dealer but does the quality vary that much too - to warrant the massive price difference? I`m inclined to go for something in the middle pricewise but am i better off paying the top price for the best quality?
Cheers

Are you replacing it because the steering has gone "sticky"?
Had the same on mine, they lubricated the UJ and now the steering is working fine.

might be worth trying? Current car - 2016 MY17 L494 in black - sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.
Sadly gone - 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.

Yeah Cassman - lumpy sticky and a click noise every now and then when steering wheel turned left or right.
My only concern is I`m sure the click/knock noise is coming from the top end of the shaft just behind steering wheel.I now these sounds can travel and its hard to know but how common is it for the upper shaft UJ to go? Most of the discussions deal with the lower one.

You could start with a freeing the joint up first.

Great vid Ovalautos.I had thought of freeing it up but I think if I`m going to the trouble of taking it off I`d probabley rather replace it so I dont have it to do again.Hopefully!!

Hi
How do you lubricate the UJ without removing. Mine is stiff after a period of no use. Don't think the issue is too bad and have been advised to drive for a couple of weeks to fully release, but see lubricating would speed up the process. Any video li is?
TIA Sean
