I have always used 3000rpm as my self-imposed "limit" before any engine is warmed through.

Exactly. Don't thrash it and try not to put it under high load and low revs. That's also not great for a cold engine.

Ah ok so if it does go to 2500-3000rpm briefly but not loaded all the time then there's no real damage being done as long as you're generally being gentle!

Yeah I noticed the FBH running on those cold winter mornings we had and the car did reach temp pretty quick and the inside was toastie quikc too!
