Home > General (L494) > Is Oil Dilution a problem in 2018 onwards SDV6s |

Oil dilution is a software issue, not a physical one. LR's "fix" was just to rewrite the algorithm that assessed oil dilution based on driving style. That's because the oil itself isn't tested by the ECU, it just makes a guess based on how it thinks its been driven. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks RRSTDV8...I was hoping they made the DPF close coupled to the engine/turbo like it is in the Velar.

I think the reality is that oil dilution is not as big a problem as it has been portrayed. It's certainly not increasing the amount of liquid in the sump by a litre or two.

On the contrary...Location of DPF definitely makes a difference.

Aye, wasn't there a bulletin released by JLR that said a combination of poor DPF position and v short trips that caused the problem? Ferrari F430 Spider F1

Yes, the location of the DPF makes a difference but your question was whether they moved it. And I think the answer to that is "no". You can't just go moving items as big as a DPF and putting them close to the engine without some major changes elsewhere. As for a 63 plate Audi, my RRS is a 12 plate, so just a year older, and it doesn't suffer from early / short servicing intervals either. But both are Euro 5 and the oil dilution-affected vehicles are Euro 6, so they aren't comparable. A RRS is absolutely fit for purpose. It's purpose, however, isn't as a city car. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Affects older cars too - I've been back to the dealer 3 times with my MY16.

Hi Ash - they just replaced oil and filter. Not great but fixed the issue until next time. MY16, 3.0D HSE Dynamic, Barola Black, TV, Rear Entertainment, Opening Pan Roof, Meridian |
