Road Tax on 2017 on RRS

For vehicles registered from 1st April 2017, Vehicle tax rates include a levy if the list price was over £40k

Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000

You have to pay an extra £325 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle.

You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed)

My RRS was first registered in Sept 2017 so technically the lower rate comes into force from Sept/October 2022.

As my 12 months tax renewal (I pay a single lump sum annually) is due the end of this month, I am thinking I will only do 6 months now then the 12 month renewal will be from 1st October each year and hopefully I wont get screwed over by having to pay a higher rate until the next renewal and only pay £150 from Oct 2022. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Hi,
we live in a Land of Hopes and Dreams Laughing

I think your Tax rate will drop in Sept 2022 Question

there is a good chance everything will change before then so just pay the annual tax now and see whats happening this time next year.

Oh and my brain hurts now just thinking about it Laughing

if you keep it until April 2058 it will be Historic and free as well

Riverblanche,

With all due respect - you're wrong.

There is a statement on the V5C of my 2019 RRS AB and one on the V5C for the Defender 90 we collected on Friday.

Here is the Defender statement.

Based on a Date of First Reg of 5th March 2021 - the lower tax is 6 years hence - 1st March 2027 therefore for RRT, DoFR of Sept 2017 means lower tax in Sept 2023 as I stated above.

I don't know when the DVLA started adding the notes - people may want to check their V5C's (Special notes section on the front page)

Hi,
Dont need the "Due respects" Scrumps Whistle if I am wrong, I am Wrong I thought it was 5 years from when registered or for the second owner as the first owner takes the big hit with the new registration one off fee

hopefully it will still be exempt by 2058 but things always change Question

Riverblanche,

No, it’s 1 + 5. I think it’s designed to catch the three year change mob, first owner takes the big hit, 2nd owner (3-6yrs) gets hit with RHT, 3rd owner (7 onwards) dips in!!

If my RRS is tax free in 2059, I doubt I’ll be getting the benefit of it!

I’ve just taken early retirement so I’ll probably be long gone!

I may be 'lucky' in that I'm only ever likely to be able to afford a 6plus year old one anyway!
I have a 41 year old motorcycle that's free of the tax thieves, always brings me a smile when the subject comes up.
Its an 1100cc so still first away at the lights! RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Grimble ,

I’m with you. I have a ‘67 MGB and a ‘44 Willy’s MB.

It makes me smile every time I “tax” them with no MOT and £0 to pay!

Hi,

I’ve had Mrs Scrumps for 37 yrs , I’ve tried swapping her for a newer model but I wasn’t allowed a road test and the CTC ( Cost To Change) exceeded my budget!!!😀😀
