Gutted - Write off? Rear anded

So yesterday was a day to forget.

Parked up roadside waiting for my lad to finish school and got rear ended by a Golf. Other car spun out and airbags went off, mine jumped the kerb and stopped about a full car length down the road. Luckily no one seriously hurt.

Went through the damage with the lady from the insurance company and apparently 'their system' says this should be repairable? Anyone have any experience of this sort of damage?

Only had it a year, I've had all fluids done, timing belt, 4 new tyres, a megaflush and a battery. Gutted is an understatement.

I can see very little body damage for a car that has been shunted a full car's length from a stationary start? current: RRS HST P400 engine ( 2021) Hakuba silver

If the damage is limited to the suspension arms and maybe the rear anti-roll bar, then why not get it repaired? I'd want the rear diff looking at too to ensure no damage there. Does it have the active anti roll bars? If so and the rear one is damaged then that might sway them away from repair if they look at LR's prices... Crying or Very sad

Edit: I see it's an AB so will have the active ARBs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The rear bumper of the L320 RRS is the rear chassis cross member. Just behind the plastic bumper shroud is this:

That cross member/bumper is also where the tow bar is attached and is extremely strong. The Golf will have been in much worse condition, I'm sure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hopefully will be just suspension arms.

A few years back my Disco 3 MY3005) got side swiped whilst parked too.

Front suspension arm, track rod end. Clock spring, steering rack had to be replaced....insurance wrote it off...to tune of 7k..paid out...bought the car back...got it repaired..bought parts from breakers.... cost mr near 1500 parts and labour...then sold car 6 months later for 6.5k as CAT D

If the vehicle is hit by a third party, why should you accept it being written off? You are the innocent party so should be able to get it repaired. The fact that it's expensive isn't your problem. Of course, the insurance companies have the game rigged in their favour one way or another, so they always win in the end. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'm not sure of the legal position so you should really talk with someone qualified, but I was told that was the case because you're an innocent third party. A chat with Citizen's Advice or similar might be useful. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

An insurer will never pay more to repair a car than the car is worth. It would be madness for them to do so (and would push everyone’s premium up if they routinely did), in just the same way as it would be mad for you to do that using your own money. Would you pay £20k to fix a car worth £10k...? (or whatever the numbers actually are). I guess they’ll give you the pre-crash market value and if you want to pour your own money into it too then that’s up to you.
