I'm new to the forum but not to LRs and currently driving a Velar D300.

I've been thinking of buying a new D300 HSE Silver edition but noticed that unlike a year or so ago Adaptive Dynamics are no longer part of the standard spec. I think you can get it by adding the Off Road pack for £950 which will give you adaptive dynamics but not Dynamic Mode. If you add the On/Off road pack for £2775 then you get those as well, amongst other things.

I'm not too bothered about Dynamic Mode, only used it a few times on my Velar, but the AD does make for a very smooth ride most of the time in comfort mode.

I don't know whether LR have made any suspension changes since 2019 when I believe AD was standard and I'm wondering if I'll miss the AD if I don't have it on the RRS. Not easy to do test drives these days and the dealer who has supplied my previous cars is not local to me. Could any existing HSE owners advise whether AD does in fact make a noticeable difference to ride quality in comfort mode ?

A sign of JLR's increasingly grasping approach. Everything becomes an option. Wheras dynamic response, adaptive dynamics, dynamic programme, hi and low range gearboxes all standard on my 2012 RRS.

The HSE Silver is a half-way house between base HSE and HSE Dynamic. Silver gives things like the pano roof and some nice interior options (heated steering wheel, centre cubby fridge, park heating). In effect it's an HSE with some popular options pre-loaded.

I guess they think that it'll appeal to urban types for whom neither open road dynamics nor off road capability are important. That's not so much penny-pinching / grabbing but rather just reasonable marketing.

Me? I'd just pay a couple of grand more for the HSE Dynamic but then I want the full capability of the vehicle and I don't really "get" the appeal of the pano roof. True, I'd have to pay extra for a cooler cubby and pre-heat but then I'd have to pay nearly £3k for the on/off road pack on a HSE Silver so that would likely all balance out more or less.

I do use the selectable dynamic mode on Terrain Response on my old 2012 RRS. I find it makes a twisty road a bit more enjoyable. But then I do still have a bit of boy racer lurking in the odd corner of my mind...

So far as the OP's query about whether AD is worth it, I'd be holding off until I could get a test drive. No way I'd want to drop £70k+ on a car without at least having a damn good test drive to see what works / doesn't work for me. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Me too, usually with a flick into "S" mode on the gear selector.

Probably how I average about 21mpg unless on a long haul covered by average speed cameras

I have now decided to go for a Dynamic instead. If I had not had the Velar for the past 3 years I might not have bothered but I guess it's worth paying a bit more now to get the full potential of the car and avoid possible disappointment.
