Help handbrake jammed!

An unfortunate first post however my newly purchased 2008 tdv8 had new discs and pads fitted when I bought it. Unfortunately my wife had the dreaded handbrake failure yesterday while visiting my son in Edinburgh.

I went through today thinking the manual release would solve the issue for now but no joy cable is not releasing the brakes.

So looking for any advice on my options can I screw back the adjusters to slacken the cables or is the only option to cut the cables?

Heading back tomorrow with a trolley jack and a toolbox

Any help much appreciated

Gary

If you are going to cut any cable, cut the drivers side on. Thats the easier one to replace Thumbs Up Laughing

Although the emergency release cable can be very (VERY) tight to release

When DM says very (VERY) tight to release he is understating it. It took me and my son with a strong length of wood to release mine. Me on one front seat, my lad other on the seat, a length of steel rod with a hook at the end round the release cable and then the other end round 2 foot length of 1" square timber , both lifting. It's not just the force required, its also the tight access making it difficult to do on your own. Worth trying rather than cutting cables
When you do get it off, put some duct tape over it or you will automatically go to apply it Whistle
Mine is a MY10 and I don't know if its different to yours, but when I removed the EPB fuse, the fuel gauge didn't work and the car thought it was out of fuel so stopped running.

Have a look on you tube, I had the same on my TDV8 all I needed was a cable tie to release it the surround near the gearshift is easy to remove & the release for the handbrake is clearly visible.

Gents very much appreciate the swift response I will try the release cable again tomorrow I maybe was slightly wary of putting too much on it

Plan b I will cut the cable I assume you don't need to cut both?

Cheers

Gary

No, if you resort to cutting, just one cable will suffice

And make sure its the drivers side Wink

I think some people use the handle of the Land Rover supplied 'widow maker' jack to pull the release which seems to do the job also. Kev
