10 years old only 41k Miles - Big service on the horizon???

Hello all, newbie here..

I have recently taken ownership of a 2011 SDV6 with 41k miles on it as a second car for the long slogs around the country when we get let out. To say it is immaculate is an understatement.. I bought it off a friend who had it 3 years, prior to that was a very affluent old gent who pampered the car - serviced every 4k miles. My mate said a service was due and we factored into the price..

Question i had was after speaking to a few garages they are coming back with approx £1,150 for the ten year service. Don't know if that is crazy or par for the course ( North London indy in Tufnell park - please shout if any alarm bells from that statement?)

Given the RRS has only just tipped over 41k do you think i need to go the whole hog? The garage said i could tailor the service if i preferred. Belts is what I am thinking mainly, as i can imagine trans fluid and the obvious oil change need doing.

I know some things are time related and others more effect by the miles. Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Oil degrades through time, as well as use (miles)

Preventative maintenance is cheap, repairs are not...

Hi and welcome Thumbs Up

As Mikey says ^ (and he does know Bow down )

the belt service was actually due at 7 years on time not 10 so a bit overdue Whistle

a gearbox transfusion (changes all the oil not about 1/3rd of it draining the sump) would also be a preventative job

Low miles does not always mean low wear if its only ever done a few miles each time it goes out nothing gets up to working temp Sad
The water temp gauge may be showing normal after 3-4 miles and 10 minutes driving but to get your oils up to temp can take more like 15 miles and 25 minutes Shocked

if you know the car and plan on keeping it I would get a FULL service done soon to hopefully set you up well to enjoy it.

If your still learning about the car run it a bit first to see if anything else might need attention Question
Then you can spend even more money Laughing

Thank you both. I will dig through the pile of service history and see if i can spot a belt change to see if that is due or done..

As for the trips, it is a long distance wagon rather than about town pottering, so thats something good..

Off for a dig!

Thank you. That link heads to a disco rather than a Range Rover Sport spec. But will have a look for the relevant one..

L319 Disco and L320 RRS are mechanically all but identical so the service items are the same. A few oddities such as dynamic anti roll bars on the RRS weren't available on the Disco but engine (well, the 3.0 diesel, anyway), gearbox, transfer box and diffs were the same.

At 10 years old, I'd be changing all of the oils, including the gearbox, and making sure the belts have been done. In fact, I'd probably just get them done anyway just so I know they're done. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just check the tyre pressures and buy lottery tickets... about 1000 of them! Laughing

Are we talking North One in NW5? Or some other garage. It’s ok to be specific. I do not rate North One in NW5 for the record. They struggled with my RRS and were, ultimately, expensive. Not for me, sorry.

I think if I had my old oil burning 2010, I would make a day trip and use Rover Tune Reading or a similar classic, well respected, well reviewed independent when it comes to a mighty 10 year service. Tell me the truth, I can handle the truth - that sort of conversation but not requiring a second mortgage. But money well spent. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!
