You have my sympathy. My 2012 3.0SDV6 did this a few weeks ago. Ended up getting both replaced on the basis that the manifold itself is the cheap bit of the job. Labour is the biggest bit by far. £1200 later... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I wouldn't mind so much but since May (<5k miles) I've had suspension compressor failure, EPB seize on, stranding me in a car park until 4am and now this... If my total repair bills are less than £2200 I'll be very surprised.

My view was that if you're stripping a lot of stuff off the top of the engine anyway, go the whole hog and do both. If one's gone, the other might do the same. Total bill for two separate manifold changes is likely to be more than twice the price of doing both together.

If it makes you feel any better Derek, I recently added up how much I've spent on mine over the past 12 months - £9341.32 I am trying to latch on to the same view as you though - hopefully good for the next few years Kev MY2014 L405 RR Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 in Corris Grey MY2010 L320 RRS HSE 3.0 TDV6 in Stornoway Grey |

Probably something in what you say there, although the PO had allegedly serviced the car, he sold it just as the big belt service was due (another reason I got it cheap) and it turns out that the "new" EPB module that he'd had fitted a few months before sale was actually a recon unit and because he didn't change discs, pads, shoes etc at the same time it failed on me not long after! The compressor was just bad luck I think, not sure the car had ever been offroad before and it certainly hadn't towed, both of which I do fairly regularly, I guess the extra stress caused the failure! Still, I'm lucky to have a good friend who's a mechanic so most of these failures can be rectified fairly quickly and I'm hoping for a trouble free winter once this latest malady is cured! |

I don't know about Derek, but that makes me feel much better!
He'll be a really good friend after a few RRS repair bills! Joking aside, it does sound like you've already changed the big things - apart from the intake manifolds! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S |

Here's a breakdown. Not all costs are a result of failure. The costs relate to service items, minor modifications and improvements. The biggest cost was when my engine spun a bearing.

What next turns out to be the suspected failure of the other side inlet manifold..... booked in to the local mechanic tomorrow to confirm but the symptoms are exactly the same as the first time round.
