New to this so be gentle.

I could do with some advice regarding some off road mods I'm carrying out on my RRS Supercharged.

I've fitted a set of adjustable Johnson rods which give me 50mm lift in preparation to fit a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 255/65/r19s on Disco 3 rims, I've done a little bit of homework and everything should fit with a little bit of clearance.

Has anyone fitted this wheel / tyre combination ?
What will the larger sidewall drive like on tarmac ?
I have the option of the same tyre at 255/55 but think the 255/65 with more rubber on the sidewall will perform better off road and look better, would I be right ?

I fitted Duratrac tyres on my L320 and have had three punctures whilst off-roading - all of which were in the sidewalls. I'm not impressed and other people have told me to send the pictures/tyres back. Don't get me wrong, they grip well and clear the tread nicely but the sidewalls appear to be very vulnerable to rocks and to stones in the sides of ruts. I now take two spare wheels and tyres with me.

Not too noisy on the road.

Just seen this. Won't the 65 profile be too much for the speedo etc? 255/50/19 is the OE size iirc but /55 is within tolerance but /65 would be a bit too much. I think that the way forward is to get 18" rims for 265/60/18 or 255/65/18.

If you're not worried about sidewall punctures, there's also no benefit I would have thought from a 65 profile.

I’ve just fitted 19x7.5j ET 47 wheels from a 2015ish RR, fitted with the Duratracs, no lift, and standard Discovery 4 sized brakes. Plenty of clearance on bumps at full lock both ways - may be 1” minimum, so room for slightly bigger tyres if needed. I can get some specific measurements tomorrow if you want them.

Compared to the 6 spoke Discovery 3 19x8j ET53 rims, they have a tiny bit more offset which you’d think would be negated by being narrower but they look like they fill the arches better. Theoretically, with the change in offset, it does affect the geometry slightly, but you can’t feel it/tell driving.

Noise wise, I can’t really tell the difference from a set of road tyres, with the engine (tdv8) possibly being dominant and overall certainly quieter than my old D3 on road tyres.

Can’t tell you about offroad performance as it’s not been tested yet, but reputationally good. Only thing I’d say is that having inflated them to the same pressure as the 255/55r19 road tyres on the D3, they look like they need more, but that be the slightly narrower wheel - I’ll be experimenting with this over the next few weeks, with a temperature gun.

Finally, they look a lot better, filling the arch much better than the 275/40r20s that came off it! They also correct the speedo, which reading 75 but doing 70, and is now reading 75 and doing 74 (tested where conditions allow)

18” steel defender wheels with 255/70/18 Michelin latitude tyres that’s at access height overall 32.1” dia

Being the supercharged with Brembo brakes I thought the smallest wheel was 20inch you could fit.......???

I looked at downgrading my 2007 tdv6 down to 18 inch wheels, but then found that I had the brembo brake option installed from factory (courtesy of Simon and PowerfulUK.com, who looked up the build sheet for me) …. Apparently you can get away with 19 inch alloys with the brembo option, but no lower.

Oh crikey - just read another post on a different thread, so looks like some 19 inch alloys fit, and some don’t …. Sheesh ….. offset research time, before more expensive mistakes are made

Tuffant do an 18 inch steel at £720 for 4 if anyone wants that sort thing. Designed for the D4 including the SDV6 so presumably would fit an RRS too. Be worth checking with the UK supplier to make sure they'd fit, of course.
