Hi all. Got this horribly annoying problem at the moment. Whenever I drive away from a previously parked position the car starts to squeal (same sound as when brakes are worn and the wear indicator rubs against the disc). I think it's the brakes because if I put my foot on the brake while the car is coasting, the sound stops immediately and starts immediately as I take my foot back off the brakes.

Did a quick feel of the discs and they're smooth on both sides with no lip at all on all four corners.

Anyone else had something similar? If I pop the wheels off does anyone have any suggestions what to look for?

I get a similar problem but not neccessarily when pulling away, tends to be intermittant at slow speeds, though it could just be that it is difficult to hear at higher speed. For me, it seems to be just the front offside wheel, but similar in that as soon as I lighlty apply the break the noise stops, returning again as soon as I come off the break pedal. I thought it was a sticky caliper but there doesn't appear to be any abnormal wear on the pads or disks. I cleaned and lubed the caliper, sliders and pad brackets but no change.

I've read a few things about problems with wheel bearings, so maybe this could be the culprit, however I've replaced these only 40,000 miles ago?

If it sounds like it comes from the rear then I think it will be your handbrake shoe lining breaking up and jamming between shoe and hub. If it goes on for a while it will destroy the surface of the drum. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I think the first things I would do, is check for a sticky caliper possibly on the rear and also check and service the parking brake shoes/drums etc. as suggested as if this is the issue it could develop in to a quite expensive repair if left otherwise.

Really hard to say if the sound is coming from the front or the rear, all I can reasonably discern is that it's coming from the driver side. Just looked at the workshop manual and it doesn't seem too difficult to get to the parking brake module so I'll give it a look.

It’s not the module you want, it’s the shoes in the hub. You need the park brake off and then the drum. Some then pull the brake fuse so you can’t accidentally put the park brake on. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

You need to have a look at Bodsys brake bible, all the help you would need for the park brake overhaul/service.

As has been suggested I would strip the rear brakes. I had a similar noise and the EPB wouldn't hold the car properly on application. It turned out to be one of the shoe locating pins had rusted through causing the other one to fail and the shoes collapsed against the drum. The shoes were toast, down to the metal on one end, so for good measure I replaced the discs/pads as well. I used the Myle kit from AF and Bodsy's brake bible (and my lad who enjoys this sort of thing).
