BROKEN Fiber Optic Cable for Rear Camera L494 2014

Hi,

Car is in Garage JLR dealer Spain. Rear Camera not working

JLR says broken Fiber Optic Cable in harness at connector under the dash LR055588 IS THE Harness they want to replace

JLR Quote, new Harness complete and 30hrs to replace price 7000.00 euro Yes 7k.

I can see the cable break just at the connector, why would JLR not re-terminate this connector, seems like a no brainer to re-terminate this cable and I see this done on man
y auto youtube videos

please help

At a guess, I'd say it's because they don't know how to and don't have the tools necessary for the job. By giving you a ridiculous price to strip half of the interior out in order to replace the harness, they also ensure that you go somewhere else and they can just concentrate on the high profit changing of oil and kicking of tyres that they consider to be a vehicle service.

Seems you've sort of answered your own question - find a suitable company that can put a new connector on the existing fibre for you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On our previous Range Rover the optical loop was faulty.
I ended up taking it to a car alarm installer who made a new one, total cost was was £600 for the whole job as they had to remove the front of the dash and redo it all.
Worked fine after that.

I had the same problem on my RRS. Absolute nightmare for what was a broken connector near the centre console. JLR insisted on replacing the whole wiring loom and tried to get me to pay for it because they said the wiring had been disturbed and broken by me or a previous owner. I got it done under warranty in the end after a lot of arguing. The car had to be pretty much stripped inside to replace the harness. The harness took months to arrive as it had to be specially ordered.

Or find a friendly telco engineer, installing cable in a roadside box. He might terminate if for a few pennies. MY15.5 HSE

So you managed to get it done under warranty? That's a good result, financially, but having to strip the car and replace the entire loom? Yikes, that's a big job for a dealership. Fingers crossed that they put it back together properly for you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
