This is not something that we tend to get into in the UK, despite having a real mix of weather. I think there in lies the problem. We have a harsh snow fall about once a year, no one knows when it might happen other than some time between November and March, so swapping wheels and tyres is just not practical (hey Landrover, heard that somewhere before???)

Pers, Are you happy with your tyres? I'm just about to buy a set for 800 euros delivered but not fitted. Seem reasonable to you?

To those in Germany in particular, can a 4x4 plus winter tyres get you past police and up the mountains when it says that snowchains are required, or do you need those snow chains as well? My first ski season here and want to be equipped and ready to go... Driving - TDV8 HSE in Stornaway / Ebony / Brunel

Before you buy snow chains, check in the manual for compatibility. Some tyre dimensions mean that you can only put chains on the front or rear or some, not at all.

Canaryman - I'm glad to hear this I just ordered a set of 19" Pirelli Scorpions for my 19" wheels so I can put the Stormers away for the winter. We don't much snow in Belgium but, compared to Canada (where I'm from), when they do get snow - they don't have a clue (or the equipment) how to deal with it. Having snow tires means you get around those stuck on the road. My choice was the Pirelli's or the Dunlops - my wife chose the Pirelli's - they looked "nicer" 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony/Cherry, Privacy, Sunroof, PTI, Premium Sound, SatNav, Cold Climate, Tow kit, CarStyle coded grill and vents, Tasmods, Stormers, JE Exhaust, Autobiography badge |
