20" Winter Tires

I`m using the 20 inch, 10 spoke alloy wheels that comes with my RR Sport for winteralloys.

Does anybody have a tire make to recommend in the 20 Inch department?

The most important is it`s ice handling.

I`m conisdering :
1. Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow 275/40R20 106V
2. Nokian WR Sport Utility 275/40R20 106V

Any suggestions and they should not have studs.

All the best

I haver the Pirelli Scorpion snow & ice. Excellent tyres as I found out during last years record snow falls. I had to laugh, seeing X5s with snow chains on the front end and a Porsche Cayenne with 4 snow chains on whilst driving on the minor roads near the Bavarian/Austrian border Laughing

Dunlop Grandtrek SJ5, only $250 a piece out here in the states.

If you are looking to spend half of that, I would reccomend the General Tire (made by Continental but half the price) UHP. I have tried these in the snow and they are pretty decent. In the wet they are amazing, great tire for the money all around if you don't mind the tread pattern.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Stornoway Grey

This is not something that we tend to get into in the UK, despite having a real mix of weather. I think there in lies the problem. We have a harsh snow fall about once a year, no one knows when it might happen other than some time between November and March, so swapping wheels and tyres is just not practical (hey Landrover, heard that somewhere before???)

It's good information though from you guys on the continent. L319 D4 HSE

To those in Germany in particular, can a 4x4 plus winter tyres get you past police and up the mountains when it says that snowchains are required, or do you need those snow chains as well? Before you buy snow chains, check in the manual for compatibility. Some tyre dimensions mean that you can only put chains on the front or rear or some, not at all.

In Austria a lot of roads I use have "snow chains only" signs but I am assured that 4wd with winter tyres on are ok to use them too. It does have its advantages as it means you can drive further up the mountain to access the ski slopes!(No cramped car parks, no queing at the gondalor and it keeps the "riff-raff" away from your wheels!! Laughing )

Canaryman - I'm glad to hear this Smile I just ordered a set of 19" Pirelli Scorpions for my 19" wheels so I can put the Stormers away for the winter. We don't much snow in Belgium but, compared to Canada (where I'm from), when they do get snow - they don't have a clue (or the equipment) how to deal with it. Having snow tires means you get around those stuck on the road.

My choice was the Pirelli's or the Dunlops - my wife chose the Pirelli's - they looked "nicer" Embarassed 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony/Cherry, Privacy, Sunroof, PTI, Premium Sound, SatNav, Cold Climate, Tow kit, CarStyle coded grill and vents, Tasmods, Stormers, JE Exhaust, Autobiography badge
