Vague steering and play

Hi

So I have a 2010 tdv8, after having the bottom arms done and the car tracked, I now seem to have a great deal of play in the steering wheel. The steering also feels very vague, and the wheel tugs and pulls hitting small potholes etc.

There is also intermittently stiffness in the wheel at a quarter turn, it feels like theres some form of resistance there and once you tug the steering wheel past the resistance, it turns freely but won't centre itself. I could literally turn the wheel, take my hands off and the car would drive around in circles.

Any suggestions?

There is no noise from the Power Steering pump or anything like that.

Could be the UJ between the upper and lower steering column sections. That can give strange feelings in the steering. Might also be someone done some damage taking the arms off or they've set it up incorrectly when doing the alignment.

Was the alignment done using a proper Hunter system or just an old fashioned one? These beasts really need the alignment to be done correctly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi, thanks for your reply

It was tracked using a hunter machine, it has also been re-tracked again as I wasn't happy with the position of the steering wheel and nothing has changed, except the steering wheel is now straight lol.
