Went to open the tailgate earlier, it would only partially open then shut again. I needed it open so forced it, turns out the drivers side strut had come away at the top/body end. Managed to get it back on the ball joint. Is this a common issue?, a DIY fix?. Any help appreciated. Cheers. |

Any chance the little spring steel retaining clip is broken or missing.

Could be. I'll have a look later. Haven't opened it since. |

Had the same with mine last year (MY2013 L320) and ended up having both the struts replaced - along with the small balls that they clip on to. Initially clipped the loose strut back on but it came off a couple of times again - hence replacing the pair. Was worried that a strut would pop off and break the back window.

According to L/R both powered struts are the same, it's the manual one's that are handed, stupid thing is you can buy the ball part separate but doesn't include the retaining clip and it's not listed separate, but that's L/R for you.

Thanks Col - I may stand corrected then. Looking at the invoice is does just say 'strut - tailgate Quantity 2'.
