Clunky gearshift from fifth to sixth gear

Hi all,

I noticed the other day that going from 5th to 6th manually and under power results in a clunky gearchange. It doesn't happen when in Auto mode, nor does it happen off-throttle or when coasting, only when accelerating even slightly.

The dealer did a transfer box double-flush and said they couldn't pick up anything abnormal, nor was there any play in the props.

Anything else it could be? Or am I just imagining things?

thanks --

Somebody on another forum suggested the UJs.

If it was the UJs, wouldn't the clunk happen all the time? My worry is that it only does it under acceleration. --

While waiting for a slot at ZF, I will reset the gearbox and see if that helps --

ok, clearing the gearbox adaptation values had no effect, so I took the car to ZF yesterday.

the technician who drove with me said it's actually not a bad shift at all, compared to some of the other vehicles, but he wanted to inspect the oil in any case.

he called this morning to tell me that while the oil is still good, it's looking a bit black, so I told him to go ahead and change it anyway. the cost is ZAR3800.

will report back once I've picked it up this afternoon. --

Just drove back home, no discernible difference in the gearchanges, but at least it's got fresh transmission fluid Thumbs Up --
