Transmission Fault Traction Reduced

OK, so I got back from a trip to Aberdeenshire (1,400 miles) yesterday. On the last part of the journey I saw this message -
"Transmission Fault Traction Reduced".
I've looked at other reports on here about this but they are all fairly old and so this is by way of an update in case there's any new information available from anyone.

There are no warning lights showing and the message only occurs when I turn the ignition on or off.

At about the same time I did loose the cruise control ("Cruise Inactive" I think it said). However today the cruise control is now working again so these may be two separate faults (coincidence or not???).

I'm popping over to my Indy this afternoon to get the magic box of tricks plugged in to see what if any codes are stored but has anyone got any ideas on what it might be?

It's a transfer box error telling you that either the centre diff has faulted or the transfer box control module is faulting and not "talking" on the CANBUS. Result is the same - an open centre diff. I.e. the diff lock won't work. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for the thoughts RRSTDV8. Thumbs Up

Just got back from my Indy who tells me that the box of tricks says its the rear diff. Hopefully just the actuator (?) and that replacing it will fix it. And this tallies with messing about with it in the drive. When I put it into rock crawl, the display showed that the centre diff locked. Rear diff showed unlocked but perhaps that only locks when the electronic wizardry tells it to??? Fingers crossed.

So I'll probably book it in for September when my man is back from his hols and he might as well change the oil whilst he is there. Anything else to do at this end of the car (96,000 miles and 12 years young) whilst they are working on it?? Robin

On the subject of other things to do, it could be worth reviewing when you last changed your oils and fluids: gearbox, transfer box, both diffs, dynamic response fluid & filter etc. Kev

Ah, you have a rare active rear diff. Didn't even think about that one as it's so rare. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ah. Ok guys. Thanks for the info. Sounds great to have a rare version. Or is it just more to go wrong😂

If I’ve got it, I should use it. Time to get off road more. Just not many locations in the south east. ☹️

I had the gearbox flushed a year or so ago but your other thoughts Kev are welcome. 👍 Robin
