will euro 6 become the new euro 5

So, as per my other recent posts, i m on the hunt for a vogue SE or Autobiography.

I nearly got caught out and bought a Euro 5 vehicle, it was sdv8 registered October 2015, so i thought should have been a Euro 6 anyway, i checked it and it isnt so i dropped that one due working in London and the ULEZ charge.

Im now focusing on early model Euro 6 cars, i.e circa 66 plate or onward but then i had a nagging doubt, could the govt suddenly decide to introduce a ULEZ charge for Euro 6 cars, thus causing similar dilemmas down the line. Lets be honest they will do pretty much all they can to hit motorists of gas guzzlers in the pocket.

Am I overthinking this Mad

Of course they will, it's just a question of when .. could be next year, could be in ten years.

Actually, I should correct myself - will the first change be to introduce the ULEZ charge for Euro6, or just everything that isn't a full EV.. sooner or later the latter will be true because they've got to push the agenda somehow! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

They're between a rock and a hard place, really. They want to improve urban air quality, hence the LEZ etc. That's a good thing to do. But if they succeed in getting everyone in EVs, they'll lose a fortune in fuel duty. They're not going to add extra duty to electricity because old Mrs Miggins will freeze to death in the dark in deepest midwinter.

So what do they do? They'll keep the LEZ charges just high enough to stop some people from driving in, but not so high that they all switch to EVs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I thought the ULEZ was instigated by the Mayor of London (Sadiq Kahn) through TfL and not a UK central Gov policy/regulation. So I believe the loss in fuel duty accrues to HM Treasury and not the Mayor/TfL through his encouragement of EVs only in London, but then I suppose the next thing will be even any EVs with four wheels will then get increasingly hammered by him for parking charges anywhere within the M25. Laughing

If changes are wanted or at least some proper logic required in the application of the policy (e.g. motorcycles?) then Londoners will have to change their Mayor in the first instance I suppose.

There might be a few disadvantages to living in the middle of nowhere as I do but the ULEZ isnt one of them. Rolling with laughter 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......
2005 Cayenne S - handling defied physics and what a sound, so sod the mpg!
1995 Disco TDI- surprisingly reliable, shame about the peeling dash & other trim
Lots of other non 4X4's in between times.........

Unless they're going to put toll booths everywhere, or trackers on every vehicle, how will they implement that? Expect cloning galore. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's OK - your smart meter will know if you're boiling a kettle or charging your EV, and tax you accordingly Wink Either that, or the smug £0 road-tax EV owners will suddenly get an awful surprise when their road tax goes up by the value of the fuel duty the government has suddenly lost... 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

I pay for mine.. I pay for hers. Wait, that doesn't seem right Laughing OK, not paying for hers this year but there's still mine - insurance on the RRS and the 650i; at least the tax is only £540 on the RRS and not the Beemer as well, that would _really_ smart! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

You’re after a diesel. Yes they will include Euro 6 ‘soon’ but you’ll probably get one years notice or so. Probably.

In London PHEV is the way forward Thumbs Up (assuming a Tesla is too low rent & impractical, which they are at least 50% of the time). L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!
