Car written off :(

Had a bit of a bump on Monday and both front airbags were released and car has been written off.

I'm hoping to buy the car back from insurance and make it road worth again. Just need a headlight, bumper, seat belt tensioner and a front grill. In terms of replacing the airbags, does the whole dash need to come off? or can I just purchase the airbag modules and simply replace them?

Bad luck Sad

only advice I would suggest is Dont let them take the car away if possible, keep it on your drive rather than trying to get it back from the insurance/salvage yard

Why not? They're planning on picking the car up tomorrow and said they can only give me a amount for the payout once the car has been collected

Hi,
things can go "missing" from it while in the yard Shocked

I rolled a D2 some time back and they insisted on recovering it from my garage I insisted it did not need to leave me,
the insurance assessor could come here as no issues viewing it in my garage, they agreed (they still sent a recovery truck for it a few days later, which we sent away)
all completed over the next few weeks and took a value that included the salvage of the D2

A friend had a subaru WRX stolen and they found it in a field not that far away he got it back home but the insurance collected it, by the time he agreed a value and then went to collect it back it was missing a number of other bits that were on when they collected it Big Cry

if it "Has" to go away take many photos so you know what should come back, but if possible dont let it out of your sight

The D2 had a winch, lights and D44 bumpers which May have gone missing Question

I replaced a rear side window glass, a rear door handle and 1 rear light cluster, just had to MOT it again and back on the road, it took longer to get the settlement than repair it Rolling Eyes

Although it did have one corner with "Patina and character" if it was a Defender Laughing as it was a D2 it had a "Dent" Whistle

If the N/S airbag has gone off has this not blown a section out of the top of the dash as well where it is attached to the underside of it which you would want to replace anyway. It really isn't difficult to remove the dash top cover just a bit fiddly with a lot of screws and clips, might be easier than using a mirror through the top glove box aperture to remove/replace it.

Cheers
