Hi. Is it possible to retrofit a heated steering wheel onto an 05 L320? Did an early L320 have a heated steering wheel as an option?

I did this mod quite a few years ago, It is possible to retro fit a heated steering wheel but not as straight forward as just bolting the wheel on, don't ever recall seeing a pre-facelift RRS1 with factory fitted one, no heated wheel listed in the parts list either for the pre-facelift. Strange though because my old 09 plate pre-facelift actualy had the wiring there up to the clock spring although not the correct clock spring fitted. Quite a lot of posts on this subject if you do a search.

It's either retrofit a steering wheel or buy a new car. That's how the wife thinks. Mad.

I know of one being fitted to an 05 plate disco 3 so I would imagine so. You need a clock spring, heated wheel and it will also need to be enabled by an IID tool. I ordered one on my last D4, they forgot to fit it so the dealer retro fitted but had to get Disco mikey to come and Enable it!

Have a look on Disco3 forum and maybe contact disco mikey or one of the other indys to check Joined the X5 45e club

If it's being retro fitted to a pre-facelift sport you do not need to enable it as they were never a option on the vehicle in the first place, or at least I didn't have to on mine and that was a 09 plate. You will also need the new circuit boards from Blackbox solution's.

Right. This is getting urgent. I will pay someone to install a working heated steering wheel to our 05 RRSS if I have to otherwise it’s gonna cost us 10-15k for one. That includes a newer car by the way.
The car we have has everything we need apart from a heated steering wheel. Please help..

I don't know what your mechanical/electrical capabilities are but it is a relatively simple diy job, when I did mine way back I used all new parts from L/R and Blackbox Solutions, with a brand new steering wheel and total parts cost around £1000.00 But I would think apart from the circuit boards you could get all the bit's off ebay a lot cheaper. You need a complete heated steering wheel with switch packs from Sport or D4, a heated wheel clock spring, be sure you get the right one as a lot advertised are not the heated version, I did previously post pictures of the correct one showing the differences and part number, a wiring connector and fly lead available from the Site Shop, circuit boards from Blackbox Solutions, and either the tool to remove the airbag or bent coat hanger will do it. You will also need to wire in a supply to the connector fly lead as a 2005 car will not have it already.

Thought about that but it definitely won't be cheaper..

Buy a 2010-2012 heated wheel from a disco or sport buy the boards from Blackbox solutions remove wheel check clock spring has the heated feed(which i doubt) fit boards to new wheel refit new wheel and bob's your uncle there goes about £350-500 but well worth it did it to my Disco 3 and moved it to my Sport supercharged the early Disco's did not have it as an option i don't think

You may be lucky to find a wheel with the boards i sold mine last year for £375 complete and it sold very quickly

I bought a heated steering wheel from geoff ^^^
Had the boards from blackbox fitted, including the flappy paddle add-on. And although not cheap
It’s been by far the best mod I’ve done

Yeah you would think after all this time Blackbox may have reduced the price of it all as it’s a few years old now can’t be many more wheels left to mod as said though by Devon it is one of the best mods to do
