New engine ?

My Rocketship has blown the head gasket. Performance is still good, hence it's name, but 125,000 mile and a 2008 TDV8 I'm thinking to sell on for bits. So many new parts over the years so it is good for bits including 2 new rocker covers recently fitted. Alternatively where might I source a new block ?
Had it 5 years and what a blast it's been. Paid £20,000 spent 1000s but worth every penny.

...yes might do that as a best price option. It keeps blowing off the top hose where it connects to the block. A really awkward clip to access. Also thinking to try an expensive radweld treatment, leaving the header tank screw cap loose to alleviate pressure. Then see if I can get another 12 months out of it . It's on the cusp of not being salvageable. Still I've always indulged it so no expense spared to keep it running. Many many new parts. If someone offered me £2750 I'd take it.Goes really well, uses no oil and ok on fuel. Nothing not to like.

I don't think the engines are available as parts so basically you'll have to buy a whole new engine from Land Rover. And that'll be well over 10 grand. Probably nearer 15 grand.

Or you find a second hand engine from something that has been suitably shunted. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Don’t add radweld.
But do try leaving the cap a little loose. Experiment with it.

Can you not buy a new short engine with the TDV8 like you can with the TDV6 for about £4.5k + VAT?

That'll save buying a whole new long engine.

But yes, I agree buying just a block is probably unlikely, if it really requires this. As Andy mentioned, I'm not sure why a new gasket will not resolve the problem along with a head skim if needed. Kev

Hmmm, I think we're dealing with a dinosaur club here. Magnificent machines but just had their day. There doesn't seem to be any pressure in the hoses so not sure why it's blowing the hose off. Good idea to loosen the cap. I'll experiment with some gunk and risk it clogging the system. The technology seems to has improved on sludge front and I'll remove the anti freeze first to stop any reaction. If lucky it should work. I'm often told these engines are bomb proof. Keep you posted.

Have you had a "sniff test" carried out on the cooling system to see if combustion gases are getting into the cooling system.

The easiest way to do this is to fill the coolant right up to brim, run the engine, give it a rev and if you see bubbles in the coolant, this is a tell tale sign. Kev

It has a value as it is, but with any stop leak added this reduces it down to the minimum for the rest of the car.

Where is it located (roughly will do), and how much would you want for it?

Located in Cornwall. In response to others...done the sniff and bubble test, both negative. Just ordered a tell tale kit which detects exhaust gas in the water. Should be interesting. Steel seal is my choice of aperitif having done the diligence. As I've said before performance is great and no oil usage. Header bottle changed along with cap which is now kept loose. Water level in bottle always been very low. Seems to find it's own level no matter how much water you put in. Maybe I'm over filling and it doesn't like it. Cheers. D
