Sounds like they don't want to touch it.

Does that give the fault code for the actuator as well? They service all my other cars so I do trust them. |

They are probably on about lubricating the turbo actuator. If the turbo needs to be replaced, it can be changed in situ, but it is far easier and less hassle for a good independent to lift the body off the chassis. A body lift is not a massive job and doesn't take that long to do (1.5 hours) for an experienced mechanic.

That sounds like a plan. I’ll let them try to lubricate the actuators then if that doesn’t work I’ll go to a LR specialist. By the way. Could the manifold have been cracked when I had the cam belts changed? |

The manifold is also the cam cover. The two parts are "welded" together and the crack occurs at the weld which fails. No idea of changing the belts can cause it but it's not an unusual issue. The solution is a new manifold, sadly. Not cheap. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Have they pulled the fault codes? That would help. Kev

My indie said, when he did my cracked manifold, that the simplest way to tell if it's the manifold is to rev the engine against the gearbox (in effect do a torque converter stall test) and listen for the whistle from the manifold. Said that's why they take it round the back to check it as it sounds brutal to the customer. |

In answer to the fault codes. Yes it was for the actuator. Thanks for the extra info. I have spoken to my local guy. The technician that is familiar with LR products is in isolation. Hopefully back next week. He will try the lubrication and the do the whistle test. |

RRS back from garage. The lubrication appears to have worked. The garage owner said if it doesn’t return within a week then pay him. Good news. Thanks for all the advice. Stay safe |

Great news. It sounds like you have a friendly local garage too. Many places charge for their time irrespective as to whether they fixed the fault or not. Kev
