Hi All

I sold my early RRS a while ago and replaced it with a D4 but I'm thinking about getting a '14 onwards RRS,
I'm looking for a bit of info regarding the difference between the dynamic and non dynamic HSE,
I've read a few horror stories about corroded pipes etc.

My question is... apart from the improved handling etc. are there any other differences?
mechanically or other features?

Is the big difference the lack of a low range box? Joined the X5 45e club

thought that was on the older models with dynamic not the L494

I would go dynamic, Handling and low box but from memory the dynamic setting goes much further also alters the traction control, throttle responce as well as the handling


although if your looking at a 4,5,6 year old car I would go for the best one which May not be a dynamic unless you want it to be

Didn't realise that it was a no low range transmission fitted,
I'm not too bothered about improved on or off road manors.
I guess anything will feel better on the road than a D4..
It's likely to be an earlier model, so I'm thinking probably best without dynamic as I can do without any future reliability dramas.

The transfer box is probably the most reliable bit of the RRS, so I wouldn't worry about that being an issue.

If you just want a 4wd estate car, the non-Dynamic will do you fine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

if you drive many b roads then i would go for the dynamic, totally changes handling, steering weight, throttle response, knock it into sport as well really brings the car alive whe you want to make some good progress

I can't see the point of going from the practicality of a D4 to a basic RRS. You lose the practicality but don't gain the much improved road manners in exchange. A lose/lose it seems to me. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Dynamic mode puts a smile on my face every time (when the dash goes red 😁) You can definitely tell the difference. Try test driving both and you will see there is a big difference between auto and dynamic. 2016 Yulong White L494 AB/DYN 3.0SDV6

My wife, who is to cars what I am to knitting, noticed a massive difference between the two when test driving Sports. I've never driven a non-Dynamic so I'm kinda curious to know what they're like. While my dynamic RRS was being repaired once, I had a non-dynamic RRS as a courtesy vehicle. Same engine.

I really did not notice much difference in normal use, other than it was a bit quicker which I put down to the reduced weight.

Yes - if you want to go mad around the twisties then dynamic helps, but when driving like a sane person..............

Of course, if you are going to off-road seriously, you need the low ratio transfer box that came with dynamic spec. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

In the first couple of years of production of the L494 the Dynamic SDv6 had 306hp compared to the non-Dynamic 292 IIRC, all changed in October 2015 when all SDv6’s got the 306hp tune. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My14AB 292 had dynamic mode,it was probably the first 288 that dint or couldn’t get it on. Andy.

Some of the responses are just plain daft. I don't 'race' and nor do I 'go mad' around the B roads where I live but I can still enjoy the dynamic option for what it is. Honestly, you don't have to drive at 10/10ths to feel the differences in a tighter set up. Ferrari F430 Spider F1
