United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver
Surf's Up!

Is it just my car or does this apply to all RRS? When hitting a largish puddle (and there are plenty around at the moment) the water does not just get forced up to the sides of the car but seems to enjoy coming straight up over the bonnet and causing momentary but total loss of vision of the road ahead.

Is my particular car missing something or is this a general design fault? If so is there anything I can do to mitigate it other than slowing to 5mph? Robin

I’ve found it does it on any 4x4. I’ve had Range Rovers, Defender, Jeep and L200 pick up - every single one would get a full windscreen wash from puddles

It's a common thing. If you compare the front corner of the vehicle to that of a normal car, you'll see that there just isn't much in front of the front tyre's contact patch. This is deliberate in order to maximise approach angle when off road. The road car has more lower front wing/valance to deflect the spray. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I do ...until I hit one unexpectedly on a corner. Frantically putting the wipers whilst navigating a bend completely blind makes ones bottom twitch!!

Do it in a Defender and you’ll wash the car following you too, great fun when you can only see the roof of their car above the spare wheel they are that close behind, really makes them pull back extremely quickly too if I’m returning from off reading and the 90 is covered in mud............... white Corsas quickly turn to muddy brown Corsas Mr. Green 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Driving my wife's MB SLK yesterday in appalling conditions to be serviced and MOT'd along with a courtesy Smart ForFour, I realised how nice it was driving through water and having a clear screen. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

A water dispersal agent e.g. Rain-X, on the windscreen helps with this. The water beads up quickly enough that you can still see where you're going. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
