Yes, you can buy them separately. If I remember correctly if you fit one to the spare it may need to be activated in the CCF files so the car knows the spare has one as well as I believe the system will periodically check it, assuming you have a full size spare as sure they cannot be fitted to space savers.

Found this bit as well so make sure you take the number of the sensor before fitting it, have a feeling it's a 8 digit number.

If the tire pressure sensors fitted to the running wheels (not the spare) are changed, the CJB can learn the new sensor
identifications automatically. The learn function requires no manual intervention by the driver.

If a new sensor is fitted to the spare tire it must have its identification code programmed into the CJB using a Land Rover
approved diagnostic system.

Cheers

There are two systems - pre and post legal requirement for TPMS - so check which you need , take your VIN and model year details to the supplier. The earlier system was a very basic system and was an option, just showed you had a tyre that was below pressure, the newer system shows individual tyre pressures on the dash and what the pressure should be. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

Doesn’t need one in spare, but if car is registered after 1st of January 2012 system needs to work as it should in all 4 wheels.
Taken from the MoT manual

Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
The inspection of the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is for M1 vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2012.

The TPMS warning lamp (see diagram 3) can operate in many ways depending on the vehicle type. You must only reject vehicles if it’s clear that the lamp indicates a system malfunction and not simply indicating that one or more of the tyre pressures is low.

Diagram 3. Example of a TPMS warning lamp
