I am looking for help and advice if at all possible? I am looking at buying a RRS for myself and considering HSE Dynamic and Autobiography.

In addition, I am getting mixed opinions on SDV8 vs SDV6 in terms of real world MPG and running costs.

I would be really appreciate and be veryinterested in people thoughts / experience that have owned these specs of RRS.

Bought a TDV8 2007 model last September 87,000 miles 2 owners with full history best MPG 30 on a long run , towing a twin axle caravan 22mpg daily commute 25mpg had one problem with door actuator (common fault) cost £55 to replace the parking brake requires attention due to lack of use getting that sorted soon apart from that I cannot fault it very comfortable to drive & use it at every opportunity.

Are you looking for an L320 model up to 2013 or an L494 post 2013 version as they are quite different cars apart from the engine. The SDv6 is a great engine but has a design fault problem - I owned a 2007 TDv8 for 3 years and that was the engine that JLR should have given the car from day 1. The SDv8 is quieter and smoother (but not by much) than the SDv6 version and ecomony is a little worse some people say the additional weight over the front wheels spoils the drive a bit too with the V8 engine. The SDv8 in the UK is only available in Autobiography trim, SDv6 in SE, HSE, HSE Dynamic and Autobiography and up to 2016 with 2 outputs Asia well! The HSE Dynamic got 306 bhomover the lesser model’s 295bhp. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Potentially a bit biased (hang it very biased) as just bought a 2014 V8 diesel.

I drove both a V6 and V8 and found the drivability and engine feel nicer on the V8 (both autobiography trim) so bought that despite being a year older (similar mileage).

I’ve had it a month and done circa 1,000 miles, mix of long motorway and short journeys and so far a real world 34 mpg, on calculator rather than the onboard display which some say reads optimistic although I’ve not great discrepancy on mine but time will tell. On a 400 mile round motorway trip using the adaptive CC the onboard trip measured over 42 mpg including some queuing and average speed limit zones on M1 and M6.

Overall this month is around average for me so if it continues at this sort of level (very close to the book value) I’ll be more than happy. I was expecting around 30 mpg on long trips and less on local trips.

I agree the SDV8 is smoother and nicer to drive and great to hear MPG is holding up, just need to check its Euro 6 and ULEZ compatible due to all these cities changing their rules on emmissions - dont want to be paying massive fees to go to Bath, Bristol or London.

I voted V8 even though I’ve had 4xsdv6 but I had 2xtdv8 earlier L320’s which I did like,if I do get another sport it will be another SC V8,one of the reasons I got rid of my14 SC is because it was black & a nightmare to keep clean & scratch free,with Santorini you only have to walk past it & another scratch apeared. Andy.

Mine is London ULEZ compliant. 64 reg plate, although not stated to be a Euro 6 engine by Land Rover but it is obviously compliant with the emissions standards applicable on the VO5, so best to check the reg number on the authority websites that are relevant to you as they have online checkers if that is a make or break point about the vehicle. Also a friend bought a diesel euro 6 of similar age which doesn’t comply and they do get charged, neither are commercial vehicles

If your friends car really is Euro 6 they should make an application to TfL to get the status changed on the vehicle record.

ULEZ compliance is based on the actual emissions recorded on the V5C not the Euro standard as DVLA do not report that.

Indeed that’s what I was getting at forget the euro 5/6 designation it’s the certified emissions that count. I’ve amended my post to make it clearer what I meant.

Yes my friend is in argument with the vehicle manufacturer (not Land Rover) about it, as you cannot get TFL status changed without a certification being provided from vehicle manufacturer (and to add insult there isn’t any retrospective refund even when it gets sorted), it’s a minefield so in my view best to use the provided checker for the relevant authority before you purchase a vehicle to be certain it complies if it is a deal breaker for a person.

Had the SDV6 L494 for about 18 months now, 2015 306bhp model Euro 6 compliant.

Brand new tyres when I bought it, still on them now, probably about 3-4mm left. Yet to replace any brakes.

Some teething problems when I first picked it up. New O2 sensor, fuel tank baffle kit fitted, gearbox selector module replaced. All under warranty. Side steps also misbehaved for a while (deployable ones)

My only expense so far is insurance, fuel, getting the scrapes resprayed out the side of it. Fill it up at Costco for about 85 quid and probably get about 400-430 miles mixed driving out of it.

I'd recommend anyone not to get one if they are concerned about running costs. Get it and enjoy it. MY15.5 HSE - SDV6 - Santorini Black

I bought a 4.4ltr V8 last April and have done around 5000 miles since. My MPG over the time has been around 26mpg (measured not from the dash). A lot of my driving is short journeys with long 150 mile each way every couple of months. According to the dash the longer journeys are returning up to 33mpg, this is motorway type driving trying to cruise sensibly at 70mph+ MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

V8 every time, no question. If you do a fair few miles get the diesel V8, if you don't do many miles get the petrol V8.

If you can have the SDV8 why buy the V6? If you're worried about mpg then one of these beasts is not for you no matter what engine you choose...

I found my SDV6 is only 2 or 3 mpg better than my old 3.6TDV8 was in real world use. I'd expect the SDV8 to better the older version so it'll be a no brainer for me when choosing again. The diesel V8 is effortless on the road and sounds much nicer than the V6 too. What's not to like? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
