United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Santorini Black
Style 17's

Hi All
New to the forum after a recent purchase of a 2012 HSE Lux.
Tried searching but unable to find an answer so hoping someone can tell me whether a set of 22" style 17's will bolt on my Sport and not affect anything if they do.

First thing, ask yourself why JLT did not spec 22" wheels as an option Question The ride and handling engineers will have spent many hours fine tuning the vehicle , steering, suspension etc. and specifying/validating the associated components along side the design engineers. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

The wheels themselves will bolt straight on, can't say what the ride or handling will be like though.

Thanks guys. Totally understand LR specced 20's but if the ride isn't compromised too much, then the look is far better.
Having said that, maybe a set of modern wheels in 20's would also suffice without any compromise ?

Why not compromise and fit 275/45 x 21" had that size on mine for several years with no issues and the ride and handling is fine, fill the arches nicely just lowered the suspension a few mm as well.

If you want to "fill the arches" then you need tyre sidewall, not spindly alloy spokes. It'll give better ride on today's rubbish tarmac too. Much less likely to damage a rim on a pothole or a kerb as an added bonus. Indeed, big wheels with rubber band tyres are entirely inappropriate for UK roads.

Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's all a compromise high sidewall = better ride and less lateral stability when cornering, which I guess is part of the reason L/R fitted low profile rubber band's as opposed to high profile tractor tyres to the likes of the SVR, harsher ride but better handling. I don't really see all the SVR owners rushing out to fit 19" 55 profile rims and tyres because it will ride better.

The SVR is an outlier, though.

I have to say that my 2012 SDV6 fitted with 19" 55 tyres can hustle along a bit of twisty road at speeds significantly high enough to attract plod's ire. And it does so without feeling that it's going to throw itself in to the scenery. What rubber bands would bring to that ability I'm not sure.

Low sidewalls might make sense on low sports cars and the like where the reduced sidewall allows for more reactive steering responses etc., in combination with the low CG. On a 2.5t SUV with the CG height of a small building, they make no sense whatsoever, other than for fashion reasons.

Even LR tell people that rubber bands are more likely to be damaged:

But hey, it's his vehicle and if he wants rubber bands then all power to him. But I wonder whether we'll see him back here complaining about the ride or tyre/rim damage... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
