engine system fault my dilemma

having just spent £2500 on service /new belts & parking brake faults which included new rear discs etc , a week later the engine system fault showed up so back to local Indy who diagnosed faulty turbo/modulator replacement cost £1700 !! My dilemma is this is a 2008 2.7tdv6 so is it worth more expense or should I get rid ? Generally been a joy to own & drive & would love to keep ! mileage 111,000 . Any advise,comments/help much appreciated .

What fault code ?

Maybe stick some Wynn’s vvt cleaner in the tank.

Hi if you go for the repair you are upto half the valve of the motor, depending what else you have paid to be done? the choice is a hobson's choice, pay for the repair do you know the history, are you prepared to fork out more money to keep it on the road in the future.

By the sounds of it you are questioning the costs of keeping it going for yourself at that point id go for something maybe more reliable and cheaper to repair.

As all on here know these are nice motors when working well but when they go wrong deep pockets are needed, i've not long bought an older one but when i start to add what i've spent on bits and bobs already, i am in the realms of a nearly new motor but no where near the class of motor or ability.

If mine starts to get expensive to keep it going i will chalk it it to a good experience and back to more reliable/inexpensive motoring.

Saying that the next motor will be 1977 pontiac fire bird what i save on repairs it will use in fuel consumption, age is just number but im still a big kid at heart Whistle

Not knowing exactly what the faults are, it's difficult to properly advise. That being said, I'm sure there was a repair kit for the turbo actuator that can be fitted in situe. Have a search on the Disco3 forum, there are owners on there who have had success with lubricating it, although I cant remember if it was a permanent fix.

I had the turbo actuator replaced about 12 months ago and it cost me about 1,600 euros at a JLR garage in
france.I am of the belief that whilst I understand your frustration, it really is better the devil you know with your car. You will lose big time on selling it if you don't do the repair, and give someone else the benefit of all the work done if you get it repaired and then sell it.
Good luck with whatever you decide. Thumbs Up Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I completely agree with the above. I also had a decision to make which meant spending 50% of the vehicles value to fix it. It was definitely the right decision for me.

As Godders says, it's "better the devil you know".

You could sell it cheap, buy another one and have exactly the same issue in 6 months time. At least if you get it fixed, you've ruled out the that issue occuring again. Well, in the sort term at least Whistle

At the end of the day though, it's whatever you think is best. Kev

I think thats for the 3.0ltr 2010-13my Col, OP's is a 2.7.
OP could really do with joining the Disco3 forum and putting aside an evening to search for turbo+actuator+seized. There are a lot of threads regarding stuck actuators and freeing them off e.g;
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/help-turbo-...r%2Bseized

There are so many threads there about the turbo that you could be there all day and fault codes would narrow it down on a search as many members have posted their codes. If I have a spare day, I will see if I can find something about a revised actuatot\r part for the 2.7

Is the vvt cleaner the same as turbo cleaner? Been into Halfords and looked on Wynns website and can’t find it.
Cheers

Check to see if actuator is stiff thru passenger wheel arch

You can try oiling it from the outside if you wish.

Or use Wynn’s vvt cleaner to clean soot off inside.
