For comparison, I have kept a record of costs in the 45 months I've had mine. So all costs except fuel, and including road tax and insurance works out at £481 per month. There were lots of repairs and replacements in the early months - some covered under warranty.

Initial Purchase Price £18,000
Maintenance, Repairs, Servicing, Tyres etc £9,391.53
Tax, Insurance, Warranty £3,481.21
Warranty repayments -£2,318.67
Total £28,554.07

Current Value (CarBuyer.com) £6,900
Net Total £21,654
Number of Months owned 45

Cost per Month £481.20

Touch wood, its been relatively repair free over the past 12 months or so, so the cost per month continues to fall. However, I am expecting that sooner or later I will need new turbos ( cos they just go wrong don't they?) , maybe ARB system repair (cos there is a slight leak)..... Robin

Wow when you count the beans like this, it’s a little disconcerting to see those figures. In this instance I’ll choose to keep my head buried in the ground Shocked 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Fortunately (perhaps Shocked ) my figures do.

And just for completeness (cos I'm anal about understanding costs) since I've had the RRS I've done 46,299 miles, used 8,333 litres of diesel at a cost of £10,019.97!!! So that's another £222.67 per month. WOW!

My RRS is my toy and my hobby. I could never justify it if I used my head. Its a heart thing Thumbs Up

And in spite of all that, I still get a buzz when I climb aboard and still look for excuses to go out in it. Must go now; got to get the pet bunny some hay Laughing Robin

Good point.

Just think how much we are helping the country by driving gas-guzzling 4x4s. All that tax going into the exchequer. Shocked Very Happy

Everyone needs to get out on the road now to help boost the country's coffers. Robin

I've just done a rough and ready calculation. I've done about 180,000 miles in two different RRS (I did 90k+ in three years in one of them). At an average of, say, 23mpg that's about 7,800 gallons or roughly 35,500 litres.

I reckon that's about £46,000 in diesel in nine (?) years. £5k a year doesn't sound quite so scary but even so.

Censored Censored Censored

Luckily I've done a reasonable percentage of those miles for work so a good lump was claimed for, but not all of them by a long way.

A thought that made me chuckle - I've used about the same amount of fuel as fits in one of the tankers that delivers to garage forecourts. So when you buy a RRS, you really do need a fuel tanker! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I dont count insurance, fuel or VED as got to pay no matter which car I have
but the VED was £260
does include warranty and breakdown cover as balance of 2 year l/r approved after the 3y manufacturers expired
more Manmaths required if I can deduct that Whistle
rear light £250? extra oil change £150 and pair rear tailgate strutts to re-align boot £400?

I will update my original it makes it look better value Laughing
