Who new owning an RRS would lead to this: Whistle Petrolheads turned into Sparkies Laughing

Not yet convinced by the Electric or part electric systems but then again same could be said for diesel 30 yrs ago and the this Mini seems to be taking another big step forward.

For me the way forward is pull in a re charge station and swap discharged battery over for fully charged one.
Its not so much the range issue but if you run out of juice its a transporter job, not a can and a walk or stick your thumb out. Now driving a rather smart looking Van

I would have thought a hybrid would be perfect in the Channel Islands? 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Agree Jim Thumbs Up

I keep considering full EV but range is an issue for the odd occasion we visit family in Scotland so the PHEV wins again this time Mr. Green

I nearly saved some money and bought fully loaded Diesel or Petrol version but resale values and perks like free parking/charging in York swayed me to spend a bit more upfront now Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Hi Muddy,
Its been good to see your long term experience of the phev. A friend has just bought one and is quite pleased although would prefer a better range on battery, he's getting about 20/21 miles. Do you know what your costs for electricity were over your period of ownership.

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

These figures were from Mitsy computer but don't take into account some of these charges were free. They also varied each month because of my irregular driving pattern - if I charged twice in a day it was about £2 but usually it was once which was around £1 - everyone gets different costs and mpg depending on pattern of usage - these vary much more than ICE vehicles. If still in Channel Islands prob 1 car all electric Thumbs Up but when I was there lot of travel off island with bigger mileage so prob still a diesel for longer journeys.

Looking at details other Tim posted:

So not really an AWD at all for wintry conditions.

It will be interesting to see if Phev versions of Mini hold their residual value any better than the petrol or diesel models which are pretty poor.

Another issue which is not widely known is that especially for fast charging units to be fitted at home can require expensive upgrading of home electrics. I know this would effect myself as put an office in the garden and if I had upgraded the electrics then would of been around 2K Now driving a rather smart looking Van

Lespes - reason I bought nearly new 2019 is l saved £13.5k vs new Very Happy

Also only paid £1200 more than a 67 plate with similar spec so hopefully depreciation has now levelled out Thumbs Up

I already have adequate electric supply from last PHEV - unfortunately I removed old charger and now looking at £300 on top of £500 grant for replacement - installers are crooks Evil or Very Mad

Charger sockets at home can be a pain - I was advised even for the mini to have a heavy duty socket and spur put in to cope with the extra load. My friendly electrician put in much heavier duty spur than I need incase I get a car that needs a proper home wall box charger. Even wall boxes are limiter to what output they can handle and even on one of those units charging a BEV car takes 10-12 hours. You cannot use the Public 50kW and bigger rapid chargers with the Mini As you will destroy the battery and they have charge limiting software that restricts the amount of charge they can take. I have been told that if I bought an IPace or Tesla then to get >50kW /hr charging you would need 3phase at home and that is very costly to install and has its own standing charge on SSE! My father has just had his 3 phase system disabled in his workshop But everything is there for reconnection if necessary. Also rapid chargers only charge to 80% battery then take for ever to charge the last 20% and I have been warned that using high speed chargers a lot reduces the battery life......... you cannot win!
The 18 months motoring has proved to me that with the journies I now do I could live easily with one of the bigger capacity battery BEVs like Tesla3 or Kia e-Niro. I rarely do journies more than 150 miles round trip so even in winter I wouldn’t need to recharge away from home but if I did want to use a supercharger it could be up to 80% charge in 40 minutes and good for another 200 miles range. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I take your point on All4 Lespes - the Mitsy had motors front and rear and electric diff lock. The Mini is rear wheel electric and front petrol so to use 4wd you need everything running. Today I had to reverse up steep wet drive to park and felt tyres slipping as I had locked in EV mode. In snow and very wet weather best to leave it in Auto e-Drive mode then both power sources will cut in together when needed, there is no Haldex/Torsen or anything other than a data cable connecting the front and rear axles in the Mini PHEVs system unlike the other All4 Minis that have them.
One of the members of the owners forum who lives in Sweden reported last winter that with winter tyres on the car was very confident in snow and he had no problems. His other car is an old Defender that ge won’t use in winter! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have to reverse the Mini into the garage and the slope of my drive and angle of approach means I end up with rear o/s wheel extended which lost traction briefly due to rain - never had an issue with DS or Outlander or the fiat 500 which goes in forwards but will need to watch this when icy Confused

I've swapped the suplied 18" Bridgestone for 17" Continentals but both are summer tyres so going to get Andy to fit Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 or Continental AllSeasonContact - just need to find time to ring him Embarassed

Money saving tip here Paul....... if you still have a rubber boot mat from your DiscoSport it’s worth trying it in the Mini........ I still had the mat from my last Evoque, fitted perfectly in the Mini’s boot apart from having two cut outs where the Evoque had two cargo tie down rings built into the boot floor, but it works well and lifts easily to access the charge cable stowage under the boot floor of the Mini. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Unfortunately let my mats go with the DS and been dealing with Mini direct on eBay who are a nightmare - they take days to respond Evil or Very Mad

I ordered full rubber set inc boot with 10% eBay discount on Thurs for £71 and last night they replied not compatible - been waiting since Sunday for confirmation. Checked their part numbers and shows front and rear correct but boot not. Buying separately without boot would be more expensive so told them just send me the set snd I'll sell tbe boot mat Rolling Eyes

Been to York today - 142mpg going and 47 mpg return as didn't have time to recharge. Plugged in York to test my lead and said 2hr 20mins which is about 1hr quicker than 3pin home charger. Will see how it goes before I decide if I should fork out for wall charger Confused

1 week into ownership and loving it - Mitsy was practical but dull as dishwater - Mini has put my grin back on Very Happy

Family have treated me to a reg with my 1st initial and PHV suffix for xmas which I think looks Cool
