If you use the big touch screen to set it it will show you which vents have to be opened, but I’m sure it’s the outer two - no harm to open all four of them though! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hybrids are different again to PHEVS. You don’t plug a hybrid into the mains, basically it self charges from the petrol/Diesel engine and regenerates to charge the battery as you drive along, when it is fully charged it will switch to electric. PHEV’s rely on being plugged in to charge the battery but can charge from regen braking and engine overrun too. JLR call their “hybrid” system MHEV - moderate hybrid without needing to plug it in. They also have the P400e PHEVs that are plug

OK, the Mercedes is a PHEV although they call it a hybrid. I think a lot of models arriving now have HYBRID in the name but are actually plug in's.

It actually has a large battery pack and can charge from AC or DC.

Still have my concern of a cold engine starting when running at speed though!

Cheers

Cheers Tim Thumbs Up

Jim on cold days engine should run to preheat but honestly I'd be more concerned with a diesel phev that the dpf will block. I can not see the point of a diesel hybrid Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I have not noticed the Mini PHEV defaulting to petrol on cold mornings - 10 days ago we had a week of overnight temperatures dropping below -5c and the car always started in electric mode and the ICE temperature gauge showed COLD. I’m sure I have am oil drip from the mini, but as I also park my 1996 TDi300 Defender on the drive the oil could be from that too! I’ve never noticed rainbows on a wet road under the Mini when it has been parked in a car park but it has already been into the service bay for a check and they reckon that they found nothing.......... maybe because the didn’t actually look Whistle 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

i'm see more and more of them around

Keep thinking of one for the wife, but she likes to buy a new car and keep it for a few years, as she only does low miles commuting 3 days a week, the rest of the time we use mine

I'm worried about the longevity of the batteries if you kept them past the warranty period, will they start going wrong, like a ipHone battery does, one min fully charged, quick trip and empty

Nick I’ve reduced my annual mileage down to around 6000 pa from 14000 (and I’m only inthe UK 6 months of the year). For short distances she could run in 100% electric mode if she had a charger at work or in a nearby car lark. I used to fill the Sport’s tank every 8-9 days, now I can go 14-18 days before filling up but I also get FIT from my solar panels that I put into my fuel account. mini has a tiny 35ltr petrol tank too but good for about 250 miles ICE range.
I’m now considering going to a Kia e-Niro or a Hyundai e-Kona for my next car - 260 miles electric range, no tax and no petrol! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hiya Nick Very Happy

Mitsy was 8 years warranty on batteries - Mini is 6 - plenty enough for me as I don't keep them long as you know Embarassed

I've done 400 miles since picking up Saturday but that's unusual for me - it came with 3/4 tank of fuel and I filled up today in Stoke before driving home and now showing 200 miles range. As Tim says small tank - £35 to fill with fuel warning screaming at me Laughing

I swapped the fitted 18" Chilli alloys/Bridgestone tyres today with a Mini specialist for a set of std 17" alloys/Continental tyres take offs and the ride home was bliss - well worth the fuel and £80 labour charge Mr. Green

After removing the 18" wheels he checked them and informed me they were 10psi under inflated which probably contributed to the Censored ride Shocked

It makes my Censored boil when I buy Approved Used and read the Censored about all the checks done before sale - obviously tyre pressures isn't 1 of them Evil or Very Mad

The Mini guy was great - he had tape around his socket spanners to prevent scratching when removing nuts and he used a rubber pad on his trolley jack to protect cills - if only he was nearer I would use him Big Cry

Andy I will contact you tomorrow to discuss all season options - I have some more possibilities Bow down

Tim - I bought an Aygo for my daughter last year from a guy with a Kona who worked on the rigs - he had previously owned Aston Martins and FFRRs - he spoke highly of the Kona and used free chargers at Lidls so had no running costs Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

It IS a hybrid, just different charging mechanism to the ones that only charge the battery from driving/braking as Tim said. PHEV = Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

Congratulations on the new wheels Muddy. Looks good Thumbs Up Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Hi fkarim,

Are you still enjoying your XC90?

I am attracted to the Mercedes GLE because of the larger battery and therefore increased EV range.
If I charge at home I think it will allow me me to drive in EV mode for 80% of my UK driving.

When we travel to France then probably 25% of each days drive down will be in EV mode.

Cheers

Both Kia and Hyundai have closed the order books now until, after Brexit - they aren’t taking any more order until they know what the tariffs will be. It is rumoured that there are 2 years worth of orders waiting to be fulfilled for the e-Niro which is What’s Car magazine electric car of the year. even Tesla must be a bit envious. My local dealer let me have his demo car for two hours and it was quite high mileage but it was t for sale as they couldn’t replace it! I also had a test drive in an I-Pace SE, then watched the price of the demo car slide from £65000 on the forecourt down to £56000 in 3 weeks when it disappeared off the used website - they might be unobtainable in the London area but in Central Scotland they are a really rare sight on the roads and hang for ever on dealership forecourts as approved used demo cars. I see plenty of Renault Zies, Nissan Leafs and Tesla 3 and S’s around at home so either Jaguar has overpriced them or the shape doesn’t suit buyers, too futuristic? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes, can’t fault the XC90 after nearly 11 months and 6,500 miles. A few driving holidays, including a 2000+ miles trip, confirmed that it is even more comfortable than RRS. Either that or I’m getting fitter Laughing

It is thirsty when running on petrol ... just a 2.0l engine quickly pulling a bulky 7-seater with heavy batteries, it can’t be frugal. The electric mode more than makes up for it though and that’s perfect for our mostly city driving. The fact that I still forget to unlock the fuel flap from inside the car (unlike RRS) just shows how infrequently I have to fill it up. I honestly can’t remember when the last fuel station visit was! Shows 25 miles range in “Pure” mode on a full charge and does deliver nearly that mileage but there are obviously a few variables that can have an impact.

Making good use of the pre-heat feature (both ad-hoc and timer). I can individually choose whether to heat the steering wheel, driver and front passenger seats when using parking climate. All electric so I can still use it when it is in a covered car park. Uses home electricity when plugged in so no impact on range.

I recently discovered in the manual that the starter battery may not get charged and only the hybrid batteries are charged when plugged in. I have yet to confirm that but if true, it is impressive that it is the second winter and I have never seen any low battery warnings, despite mostly doing short journeys. The RRS needed to be trickle charged regularly otherwise low battery warnings appeared on the dash.

Above all, it is extremely reliable. I am getting increasingly busy and have neither the time nor the mental capacity to juggle dealership visits with work/family responsibilities. It has been back to the dealer 2-3 times but that wasn’t the car’s fault. Still, the customer service received on those occasions was outstanding Bow down Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
