I own a 2007 TDV8 Sport and I have had a gearbox refurb here in the Algarve. Now when driving the car when I accelerate and the car changes from 5th to 4th it bangs into gear quite badly. All other gear changes seem fine. The garage who did the work say that this is normal for this car but I know that it isn't.

I tested it in tiptronic and it is definitely only when it changes down from 5th when under load, it is very noticeable. I want to sell the car soon and I know that anyone who test drives the car will reject it due to this. Any idea what could be wrong and why only this gear?

probably a crack in clutch drum, so I would keep fighting them.


What was the problem before the refurb ?

Before the refurb I had a slight knock in gears 2>1 but I also upon inspection had burnt transmission fluid in the box and the dreaded 'F' for gearbox fault came up when driving once. It was decided that the box should be overhauled.

The mechanic says the jolt is down to the torque converter adjusting to revs but it never did it before and it only does it in that gear now so I'm puzzled.

There’s no way it’s normal. These things should be seamless with just a change in engine tone and rev counter movement. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

The only time when mine "Jolts" is when chainging down in sports mode from 2nd to first just before i stop. at no other time does it "jolt" so definatly not normal.

Thanks for the replies guys. In a different car if this was to happen I would say the engine mounts have broken, it can be that severe. I have messaged the garage back and I'm waiting for a response.

Definitely doesn't sound right I have exactly the same as yours , only had it a couple of months & you cannot even feel the gear changes, don't let them fob you off.
