Yet to take the plunge

Hi my name is Michael and living in Coventry. My eldest son suddenly has shown an interest in an RRS and my 1st thought was omg you must be mad so he showed me a picture of what he's been looking at which was a 2007 sport fully kitted out even had video screens on back of head rests. Well since then I've found myself taking a sneaky look at selling sights and now I'm looking with the eyes of a new lover and can't shift the idea of owning one. £7000 was the asking price and 90 on the clock 2.7ltr diesel.
So what I'm asking is as I know nothing about them is what should I look out for and are there any good people in the Coventry area that could help. Fingers crossed x

Welcome. If you are thinking of joining the RRS club then you need to understand a couple of very important things.

You are buying a top end luxury 4X4. It was very expensive when new and will be very expensive to maintain (properly.)
They are fantastic cars with amazing capabilities, that few owners explore, but are there when you need them. A beautiful cruiser and a true off-roader.

The most important thing in a 2007 car is not the videos in the headrest it’s the Service History, which must be complete and available for inspection. For example at 12 years old it must have had its Timing belt changed twice. Frankly the list is endless but you will need to check it.

When you drive it find a very bumpy road and there should be no knocks or thumps, they can be expensive. Check EVERYTHING works, particularly the air suspension, it should go up and down reasonably smartly, 5 secs ish, with no hissing or creaking. And do it a few times. Check MOT history for accurate mileage and failures.

The list is endless, but don’t fall in love with the first one you find, just because its loaded.

You must have a comprehensive warranty, and remember, that every day it doesn’t throw up a fault is to be enjoyed, but it is just a day nearer the day when it will, so be covered.

Finally, when you have owned one you won’t want any other car, so get a good one.

Great response and I thank you for picking up the video package as I put that in just to see the responses it might get😂 but I'm very interested in a warranty for the beauty when and if so which should I look at and which should be left alone. I assume it won't be cheap so will be worked into the overall cost basically can I get a warranty for it over 10 years old or plus 100k

Just after I posted my reply I realised that with a 2007 car you may find getting a warranty a bit difficult.

However, if you can then Warranty Direct is where I am and so are a lot of other guys on here.

As for the timing belt, I made a small mistake. It should have been changed once but is coming up to the next change and it isn’t cheap.

England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

2007 model have problematic oil pump housings.

The result is a wrecked engine, and replacement will be almost of the cost of the car.

So it is wise to replace the oil pumps on 2007 (and 2006 and 2008 models)
Do cambelt at the same time

With these cars you need lots of spare money to fix things when they go wrong.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

I bought a TDV8 two months ago & it's a fantastic vehicle the advice I was given was to avoid the 2.7 and go for the 3.6 V8, mine came with full history low ownership and only 86,000 miles have found a great independent for any work required , so far just had a lazy central locking actuator replaced .
MPG the worst 22mpg the best 31mpg so not bad at all for £6995.

Welcome to the forum - if you can post a link to any potential purchases - this may aid your decision making. Some people keep their sports as per factory spec - others turn them into fairground rides. Us anoraks on here can advise which parts or accessories may have caused issues to any vital components Thumbs Up I’ve had 5 & spent thousands on trimmings but not much on repairs Thumbs Up

I own a 2006 2.7tdv6, I have done for 15months.
Absolutely fantastic car, has had a few niggles.
Battery, alternator, brake pipes, front and rear prop, air con rad.
These cars are becoming evermore cheaper to buy, but as they age more expensive to maintain.
I knew this when I got into the fold, and don't begrudge spending money on the car.
My advice; the market is flooded with choice, buy on service history.
A car from a forum member would be a good choice.
TDV6 especially 07-08 get the oil pump changed with the belts.
TDV8 turbo's are prone for failure around 100k
V8 supercharged would actually be my engine of choice Bow down

Problem with main dealer is that they will sit you in a new Sport not a 10 year old with creaks & moans. If you was after a L494 you would have been more than welcome to come & view - drive mine Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............
