Hi All,

I had the adaptive headlight warning light show up on the dash last night, and sure enough the drivers side dipped beam light was out. However, i have in the past had the passenger side bulb changed but when this blew the warning light didn't show on the dash...So would a bulb blowing bring this light on or do i have further problems?

I have checked the 10A fuse for the adaptive front lighting in the passenger fuse-box position 27 but this is fine.
All other lights in the headlamp unit work fine.
When the car starts up the passenger side appears to do the normal start up levelling dance.

So before I fork out for a new xenon bulb is there any thing else i should check? and does a blown bulb usually bring on this warning light?

you need a new bulb regardless so i would start there......

I don’t think you have bulb fail warnings on these.

Best get a new bulb

so i changed the bulb and it is working but the adaptive headlight warning light is still on the dash....whats next?

Firstly get the codes read and cleared,
this will take away the warning and see if it comes back..

I was thinking that it may have been side related,
Drivers side may warn as its in the centre of the road where the
passenger side is less dangerous as its kerb side..

thanks, i'll see what i can do codes wise...i have one of those bluetooth OBD2 devices i might try that on it.

just noticed, the drivers side doesn't do the dance when switched on but the passenger side does, and you can visibly see on the road that it is a lower beam now that there is a bulb in it. So i guess the motors aren't working.

was it the same bulb/lamp as the passenger side? ===========================================

yes both were the main xenon dipped beam bulb

The xenon does both dipped and main - there's a shutter that moves to give the necessary light output. The halogen comes on as a main beam pattern filler to ensure even light spread when main beam is selected. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I've had problems with my AFS headlights ever since I bought my RRS. As it wasn't covered by my warranty and was an intermittent fault, I've put up with it. I don't do much driving at night and so it was not a major inconvenience. Biggest issue is if it playing up when the MOT is due as it could be a fail.
Initially it was one headlight not aligning itself correctly following the initial "dance" on start up although there was no warning light on the dash. About a year ago I got the warning light as well. Really annoying but still just about tolerable. I've swapped the power modules in the headlights and the fault has moved to the other headlight so I suspect that there is a fault in one of those modules. I've had it checked at my local indie and the codes read. They say the codes suggest a faulty AFS module. So with winter coming on and the MOT due next March, I suppose I should get something done about it. Past posts on here have suggested I need to be looking at new headlight(s) but at around £1k each I'm reluctant to lay out that sort of dosh until I'm sure its nothing else.
So my plan is to let my indie replace the AFS Control Module and see if that sorts it. Robin
