Service indicator showing after just 8k miles

Has anyone else had this? My car had a major 80k service carried out at RR at around 77k miles. It’s now 8k miles later and the lights back on. Should I be worried?

Don’t know which model you have but when I had a new V8SC a couple of years ago, the service indicator countdown was quite erratic. Do a search, there are quite a few posts on the issue.

I wouldn’t be “worried” but I would get it checked in case. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I work in metrics and my service interval is 12000km which is 7500miles so it is telling you your next service is due - seems all correct to me. 07MY RRS TDV6

I think that here in Oz we have services every 6 months , double that of the Poms? I certainly used to have 6 month intervals on my 2.7 all those years ago. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Mine is 6 months/12,000km - no idea if it is different elsewhere.

Irrespective the service indicator uses a simple countdown method, and is irrespctive of what is happening in the engine and vehicle.

In the case of the OP, if when the vehicle was last serviced the indicator was set to come on after 8000m then that is when it comes on. With my resetter I have about 10 different options for time and distance. 07MY RRS TDV6

Hi guys need advice, I have seen an 05 RRS 4.2sc for sale the guy seems pretty genuine and has informed me that the vehicle has not had an oil service in 4yrs of ownership in which he's covered 29000m the current milage is 120000m with full history up to 91000m, but the car sounds and drives ok, I'm going to check the oil on the next viewing, should I walk away now?

You could argue that it’s done 2 1/2 x the time on the oil it should have done however some would say that cars are overserviced these days. Some modern military vehicles get oil changes on condition which is a great idea so a sample is tested every set period and the results decide on the action and when. The vehicle could have done 20,000 miles at 60mph with little load and always at the optimum temp but it as easily could have been stop/start fully laden at 0 to 100 and back to 0 every day. You just don’t know. It’s a gamble, it needs the price of a very good major service knocking off at the least. And if it’s not been serviced I would check every item works and isn’t broken as the chances are it won’t have been fixed properly, if at all. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

The thing is it’s cheap at £4250 has no advisories on the mot history and he messaged me last night to say engine warning light came on which came up as fuel correction fault bank 1 and 2 malfunction, the garage thinks it’s an air leak in the system or dirty fuel as it is not used on a regular basis. Now with it being a Land Rover I know there are going to be problems so I’ve got my head round the fact it may be a money pit but my main concern is the engine and would the lack of an oil service be catastrophic or would an oil flush and oil and filter change sort it, ideally I am wanting some sound advice from an owners past experience or horror stories with regard to lack of oil servicing.

Bearing rotation can be an issue on the TDV6. Old and dirty oil will contribute to increased wear on all moving mechanical components.

If it were me, I'd spend a bit more and get a well looked after example. But ultimately, it's your choice. You may be lucky. Kev
