2011 Range Rover Sport air strut life span

Hi, I've got a 2011 Range Rover Sport with 98,000 miles on it, with no indication of the air struts being replaced. I've looked online, to find that a brand new air strut is about £400-£500 here in the UK. I'm wondering how long/many miles would a brand new air strut expect to last on average, and how long the air struts on my car currently potentially have left in them?

Can’t really help on how long they may last, but have a read of this regards the cost of replacements, they are available for a lot less than you’ve found.

It's a tricky question. My previous RRS had 175k miles on the original struts when I sold it. Were they knackered? Probably. Did it ride badly? No.

You can get the complete struts for half the price you quote. Or less if they are non-adaptive units. Guessing you asked a main daeler for a price. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I think it all depends on how the car has been used over its life. If it has been sat on the motorway then they may be alright, if its been used on the school run over speed bumps or extensive off road use for 100k, you can safely say they need replacing.

You need to ask yourself how you feel about the ride quality. Do you find it excessively bouncy? Do you experience suspension sag when the vehicle is left overnight?

For me, I felt my dampers were shot because I was experiencing another oscillation which I felt shouldn't be present when the suspension was compressed and released and the dampers were therefore not adequately dampening the oscillations. I replaced all four on mine and the ride quality was transformed. In addition, this resolved the issue I was experiencing concerning not going into access mode which was related to the front offside strut not being able to be compressed to the required level.

As I mentioned in the post linked to above, I bought my Dunlop struts from John Craddock. £139+VAT for the fronts and £150+VAT for the rears. That was for the non-adaptive ones. Kev

My car is 12 years old and is still fine and we have worse roads than you do - dont go looking for issues that are not there. If there are symptoms well that is different.

Don't bother with ECP for those kinds of parts. You are much better off going to a specialist LR part supplier.

If you have an electrical connector on your struts, you have the adaptive damping and the part numbers are:
Fronts: LR052867 (LH & RH)
Rears: LR032651 (LH) and LR032652 (RH)

If you do not have an electrical connector on your strut, you do not have the adaptive damping and the part numbers are:
Fronts: LR016415 (LH & RH)
Rears: LR016419 (LH & RH)

Have a Google around. As I mentioned, I found the John Craddock to be the cheapest when I bought mine. Kev

The site sponsor Advanced Factors supply the genuine OEM(LR) ones for a very reasonable cost. I'm getting some at the end of the month.

As for whether you should replace them, that depends on how long you are going to keep the car, etc. For example, I'm an engineer by profession, and I like things to work properly, even if they are old. My wife has a very nice 2006 Saab, which isn't worth much now, but has only done 80,000 miles. We've had it about 11 years. The suspension felt a bit "crashy", so I have replaced the dampers, with some nice quality Bilstiens. Its rejuvenated the ride. You don't realise how they gradually deteriorate, until you replace them. I keep on top of all the other suspension bits to, as if the ride deteriorates so that it just generally feels rubbish, compared to a newer car, you feel like selling it. Like anything with some miles, they need some TLC to keep in top form !
That's why I'll also replace the ones on the RRS.
