Had the RRS in today to have the wheels balanced but noticed it was jacked up from points other than the approved ones. I don’t profess to know anything about this topic but the car suspension was not lowered first and the rear left wheel was still touching the floor whilst the other 3 weren’t. I was always told to lower the suspension first and to jack from the points by the side rails....

Lots of tyre places will jack off the suspension arms rather than the chassis points. Done correctly, it's fine to do so. It has the benefit of only needing to jack the thing up a couple of inches to get the tyre clear of the ground. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

As long as the jack wasn't sited on floor pans etc. and was lifted on the suspension components in the correct place, then it should be fine.
Having wheels still touching the ground sometimes confuses the system, but a restart usually sorts it out. Lowering suspension before jacking is not necessary. 2011 MY D4 HSE

Never lowered suspension before jacking up vehicle, and always use low profile jack under wishbone arms, just make sure they haven't jacked on the compressor on the n/s/r either, have seen clowns do that.

I think the manual says to jack from off road height as they are writing for someone using the weak little supplied jack. You don't want to be lifting it any further than you have to on one of those!

When I jack mine with my trolley jack, I generally use the chassis points with a jack adaptor, jacking from normal height as it's easy with a decent trolley jack. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Isn't the issue how the air suspension behaves? I always put to off road height and left the tailgate open. I thought that this stopped the air suspension from trying to adjust itself (i.e. lowering while lifted by the jack).

Much easier to use a trolley jack under suspension as suggested above. 2 pump, wheel off. Job done. Visitor from fullfatrr.com

You can even have the car lift the wheel by itself
