Hi all, I’ve not long got my Range Rover sport 2007 TDV8.
I noticed some oil drips on my drive and investigated underneath. I’m not knowledgeable about cars but can see some drips coming from the rear end.
I hope it’s clear where it is in the photos the drips are coming from the lowest points of both highlighted areas. To me this looks like some kind of drum on the axle between the wheels. Can’t tell for sure if it’s just run down to here or is leaking from here.
I’m praying this isn’t a nightmare scenario and extremely expensive. Any help will be much appreciated.

That looks like the rear differential to me. Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge than me can shed a bit more light but does the ACE pipework which is a know weak point run above the rear diff?

Yes, after some googling I believe it is the rear diff. I tried feeling above it and I’d say it’s dry but the fact that the front part of the two circled areas has a drip did make me think something could be dripping onto it.
It’s in for a service tomorrow and some repairs (non locking/unlocking passengers door and vibration under breaking and at 70ish mph) hopefully they’ll be able to find out what it is and it won’t be a huge cost.

Yes, that's your rear diff. The casing consists of two halves that are bolted together and yours appears to be leaking at this point.

It can be removed, split and resealed. When doing this it's important to check there is nothing blocking the breather. If the breather is blocked, when the diff heats up, the oil will be forced out of the seal again. This is more common on the front/centre diff as the diff breather has a small filter on the end located in the engine bay and this melts as a result of the heat from the engine. I believe on the rear diff, the breather terminates near the fuel filler. Kev

Big expensive job? Is there a chance the whole diff needs replaced or just the seal?

It depends where it is actually leaking from to be honest. It may be leaking from the seals where the driveshafts or prop connect into which would be a simpler/cheaper job. See what your mechanic says. Kev

Although from the pictures, that looks like an ACE fluid leak...

Check your ACE level as DM says, it looks like the ACE fluid (and he knows his 💩) 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

The garage has said that the leak is from the rear diff seal. I left it with them to repair. The vibration mentioned in another post was cured by changing the front discs, pads and a calliper.
I’ll post the accurate findings on here of exactly which one of the above fixed the vibration and the leak when I get the RR back on my return from offshore.
