Terrafirma discreet winch mount + Terrafirma 12000 lb winch with wireless control + wiring extension kit.

Bumper off (wiring left under tension - bad boy. ) and everything doused in PlusGas.




Valve block released from the driver's side of the bumper reinforcement beam:




Washer reservoir removed from passenger side of the bumper reinforcement beam.




Reinforcement beam removed and plastic trim cut out with a sabre-saw so that it was flush with the mounting points for the bumper reinforcement beam:




I cut off the 'tab' on the washer reservoir (in picture below):




M8 captive nuts drilled out to 10mm (and given a whack with cold-chisel if necessary).




There was no way they were going to be at the correct spacing just by luck, so I effected a simple Go/NoGo tool by fitting a couple of the bolts into the bracket that goes behind the reinforcement beam mounts. As long as these fitted in the holes, the spacing was "good enough for government work".




Holding the mount in place to fit it was a PITA. It is a two-man job but I was on my own and just about managed. One hand and a knee holding it in place (with a couple of bolts in the mounting holes). Another hand holding the bracket behind the mounting brackets that held the reinforcement beam and yet another hand tightening the bolt (no washers, though?)

As usual with this sort of jobs, there was that stomach-churning tinkle of fittings bouncing their way down to sit above the under-tray - several times .

The washer reservoir is secured onto a bracket on the winch mount. The winch is a snug fit and I found two 'gotchas' that nearly me out: the fittings for the fairlead need to go in before the winch; the winch is fixed by bolts that go into square nuts in the 'feet' of the winch - the winch has to be tilted to fit and these nuts drop out, so Blu-Tak saved the day.

I'm just waiting on Terrafirma advice on fitting the control box. It could be me, but I think the wires are too short.

I must say that you are losing the bumper , your winch mount is just that , so in a crash you have zero protection . I have fitted mine with Devon 4x4 hidden winch bumper , that includes a sturdy side to side bumper and two winching points https://www.devon4x4.com/d44-discovery-3-d...t-kit.html TdV8 mapped and egr deleted , 265/60 r18 on Compomotive rims , Navarricos underbody protection , custom rocksliders , Devon44 hidden winch 9500i , IIDTool

I´m pointing that both front corners are weakier , and of course softer for pediastrians , but in crash with another car or in a offroad event like sliding in mud against a tree you are going to have increased damage in your car. TdV8 mapped and egr deleted , 265/60 r18 on Compomotive rims , Navarricos underbody protection , custom rocksliders , Devon44 hidden winch 9500i , IIDTool

The crash bar is in the front of the car stretching to the sides of the car as i remembered when i fitted mine and i'm pretty sure the whincn mount and the whinch was more than adequate yes either side was a bit weaker but they are called crash bars for a reason as they deform in a certain way whers as the whinch will not as they are solid

The lower bumper bar also acts to prevent a low bumpered vehicle from running under the RRS. Look at the height of some cars' bumpers and you could see many would go under the upper bumper. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
