I’m presently in a ship yard and earlier this morning we were told that a vessel would be coming alongside at our stern. Apparently the vessel had suffered an Engine Room fire....

A little research revealed that it was the Front Altair, which was targeted by the Iranian Navy / SF a couple of weeks ago.

There are a few interesting observations that you can come to regarding it’s placement.

1. It was placed using the pole placement method from a small fast craft of some description.
2. It was placed well above the waterline. So the intention was not to sink the vessel or to cause a major pollution incident.
3. No secondary action was planned or conducted, therefore no intention to sink the vessel.

It appears that the Republican Guard wanted to send a message that was visible to the world with damaging the environment or killing the crew of the vessel.

Regarding the Stena Impero which was seized on Friday, if you review the video footage of the Royal Marine Commandos boarding the Iranian vessel Grace 1, off Gibraltar, you will see that the Iranians have attempted to mirror the boarding techniques used. Obviously they are sending the message “Yes! We can do that too”
