United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black
Hesitant start

It has been only 3 weeks since I purchased our 2008 RRS 4.2 Supercharged. It has been running faultlessly - until yesterday.

Yesterday, I turned the key in the ignition, dash lights came on, but nothing but a click happened. It wouldn't start. Shocked

I tried again, but the same thing happened but this time there was more of an attempt to start with the starter motor trying to turn.

Third turn of they key, the engine started!

What a relief that was.

Any ideas what could be going wrong? RRS Supercharged Genuine HST

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

First and easiest option would be to get the battery tested,, if it's a few years old it may only be holding a partial charge, I had that issue with mine, it caught me out a few times,,, it would be fine for a week or two then for no reason would barely turn over. My indie put it on his super dooper test rig and said it was only holding 70% of its charge. That coupled with a few short runs was enough to cause issues,,, Newbattle,,, no problems. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Ok. Thanks very much for your input. It had not been driven for a few days when this happened. Yesterday, I was out driving it for a few hours - lets see how she is later today when i attempt to fire her up! RRS Supercharged Genuine HST

When my alternator was on the way out I saw similar problems and ultimately it crapped out taking the battery with it. Might be worth checking both out.

Thanks. I will get it looked at on Monday. It did it again this morning. It took 3 attempts before it turned over and started. Just before it started it turned over slightly slower than normal. It only seems to happen over night. Once started and driven, it starts as per normal. RRS Supercharged Genuine HST
