Is Dash Cam disconnection a normal part of service? Stratstone Aylesbury have just undertaken The 5 year service of my RRS MY14 and the dash cam footage shows it was disconnected (both front and rear cameras) immediately prior to leaving their premises for what I am being told was a test drive. This test drive lasted 11 minutes only and was conducted wholly in a built up area of Aylesbury. My tracker system shows this and that the top speed of the vehicle was 37.9mph in a 30mph zone. I have taken up this issue with Stratstone and been told by the Dealer Principal that it is a normal part of the service. That makes no sense to me at all so am persuing the matter and also the speeding issue. Last year tracker recorded a Stratstone employee driving at over 90mph in a 70mph area and 50mph in a 30mph area. So they have history!

I'm sure my indie does this as well but never really given much thought as to why,, saying that, I was cleaning the car a couple of weeks ago and had the doors open for a good while longer than I normally do,,, which sets the dashcam recording. I also fiddled with the seat settings a bit, when i went to take the car out a few hours later the battery was proper flat,,, and it's not an old battery. Maybe this is one of the reasons they disconnect them. 2010 RRS, TDV8

They all do it, not just Land rover. I have had it with my Range rover, Jaguar, Mercedes & Porsche. Every time without fail. Must be the first thing they do, but never connect them back up. Probably give you some guff about Health & Safety or Data Protection. |

We always leave the cameras plugged in for road testing etc, but they are unplugged when coming into the workshop

Under GDPR legislation they are also totally entitled to demand that their images are removed from your dash cam footage as you are filming employees in the workplace to which you have no right. |

Thanks to all for replies and some good points made. I had advised Stratstone that dash cams and tracker systems fitted. Thus if they were concerned about GDPR they could request disconnection or do this themselves at time of vehicle entry into workshop. What I do not understand is why the dash cams were disconnected after all work done and just prior to test drive. |

you, or your car in this case are on private land and they have every right to say no filming, or photography, strange that they unplugged it to do the road test though, if it was filming whilst in th workshop

UPDATE: Stratstone Aylesbury Dealer Principal has now admitted that the road test was not undertaken adequately. After exchanging a number of emails with him I took my car to a Land Rover independent specialist who confirmed that the transfer box oil had not been changed. This was ticked on Stratstone's service sheet as having been done. It seems that the main engine oil and filter had been done.

They didn't do the transfer box oil but did tick the sheet? No surprise there. Stop using LR dealers for servicing. They over charge and do a rubbish job. Sure, they do a service plan but if they don't do the work properly (or at all, in this case) then the so-called savings are soon swallowed up by you having to get things sorted out, revisits, etc.
