Hi everyone I'm a newly to the range rover and hopefully going to purchase a 2008 range rover sport HSE 2.7 over the weekend what should i look for when looking at the car.
ideally i check list would be great but as with most car forums people only post the horror story's. thanks in advance for any help/suggestions no doubt i will be on here regular picking people brians

FULL service history would be a starting point. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Check no engine management lights are on and that they haven’t been blacked out to make you think everything is OK (common trick on cars with EGR problems, it’s amazing what a spot of black gaffer tape or black paint on a lamp can hide)
Check the suspension raises and lowers all the way smoothly and quietly and no warning lights or faults come up
Even if you never intend to go off road, check that the transfer from high to low ratio gear box works smoothly and quietly (and that it works at all!) and try to check underneath the car for off-road damage (yes 98% of RRS never go further off-road than Tesco’s car park but you might have found one of the remaining 2% that get used how they should be)
Any tyres bigger than 20” and non OEM wheels - walk away, you want a car as close to factory standard as possible, also walk away if body kits are fitted unless it is an HST model that had a body kit fitted by the factory or the dealership.
Check the roof for damage - if driven in a multi-storey car lark in normal suspension height this can happen. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Do not skimp on the maintenance or servicing, only ever use exactly the right oil, check belts and tensioners done and if not do asap. Accept that these are fabulous cars but expensive to run and you sre going to need to have a maintenace fund to pay for the inevitable bits that will need doing. Find and cultivate a good indy specialist and do not entrust looking after it to a non specialist generalist.

Check when the timing belts were changed and ensure the water pump was also swapped (cant remember if it was the oil or water pump that fails sorry)

uneaven wear of the tyres, if it requires aligning then you might find that hte bolts are siezed in the bushes.. these will then need to be replaced for accurate alignment.

worn suspension, a wallowing lump doenst feel too good on our roads...

lumpy tick over / huninig revs can indicate failing / worn injectors

droning whilst driving can be transfer case / diffs or worn bearings

i wouls say all of the above can be applied to any car so dont be scarred off. A well looked after example can serve you well for many years, and yes these can and are expensive to maintain so dont expect a free ride..

If your new to Range Rover Sports, then test drive as many as you can, you need to get a feel for the car.
