All the fluids in my previous link are the ones recommended in the workshop manual.

Does anyone have any documentation to say it has to be long life/semi-synthetic/fully synthetic?

If you go to the Opie Oil site and look up Castrol Syntrax 75W 90 you will find it used to be called Castrol SAF XO 75W 90.

So Land Rover specified the semi-synth (grey bottle) when they built the vehicle, but the fully synth (gold bottle) is what is being used now as the semi-synth is no longer manufactured by Castrol. Makes sense

It's a Re branding on Castrols behalf, both 100% the same Fully synthetic API GL-5, SAF-XO came in white, black & grey 1 liter bottles & now gold with a new name. 20 liter are still grey plastic or brown metal, 200 liter drums are green. No matter what, Castrol claims it's all the same oil and some syntrax long life containers has the writing: formerly SAF-XO Oil & tyres = debate - always |

I have no idea why I thought the grey bottles were semi-synth. I can only think that it was because of the addition of 'Longlife' on the gold bottles. Kev

Hi guys, just found this thread and thought I’d add onto it! Being new to RRS after having FFRR for years, I just wanted to check that the diffs and transfer boxes are the same as I want to do my fluids. If I remember it’s lesser on front diff to rear, but 2litres of oil should cover it and two litres for the trans box also.
