2011 3.0 smoking

Has anyone had this happen or have any ideal what it could be? I had restricted performance come up on the dashboard pulled over & turned her off started her back up & it had gone so guessed she was throwing a hissy fit. The following day I drove about 6 miles went down 2 bypasses so around 50 mph good as gold parked up went into the shop started her up good as gold again 2 mins later I had a little bit of smoke coming out the back had no where to pull over got less than a mile up the road sitting at traffic lights & im smoking the entire road out no warnings on the dash nothing slowly & carefully drove her home cleared to nxt to nothing turned her off left a couple of hours & started her up again & no problems at all used her for short journeys & seems to be good as gold has anyone had anything like this before?

Col, the secondary turbo oil drain issue would only be present when the secondary turbo spools up wouldn't it? Ie. At 2800 rpm and above. The OP reports the car smoking when at lights, ie. At idle. Kev

I think you're right. If you hit 2800rpm and you don't get smoke, it isn't a problem with your secondary turbo not draining oil effectively. Kev

Had the same prob on MY12 and following the mod it seemed too pull better and no smoke issues.

Piece of mind now it has been done by independent dealer.

If you don’t mind me asking how much did the mod cost to have done? Mine doesn’t smoke normally was just that issue a couple of days ago?
Many thanks

Sit down take a breathe around the £650 mark

If I remember correctly they also change some rear belts/pulleys at the same time and the water pump.

Personally, no, I don't think that is the case.

LTB00487v6 which Col suggested you to take a look at concerns the secondary turbo oil drain problem. The secondary turbo spools up around 2800rpm. As you stated smoke is emitted when you were at the lights ie. at idle, my personal opinion is that this is not the issue you are experiencing. If you said the smoke was emitted when you were booting it ie. above 2800rpm when the turbo is spinning and forcing air into the engine, I would agree.

By the way, the mod for the secondary turbo oil drain issue is to fit a shorter pipe which allows the oil to drain more effectively away from the turbo into the block instead of into the sump. Kev

If you wanted to do it anyway, you could do it yourself and save some money...

Bits needed:
LR044556 Drain pipe Quantity: 1
LR044555 Blanking plug and gasket kit Quantity: 1
LR013235 Gasket Quantity: 1

Hi i did look at a you tube video to see what was involved. The bulletin did have them part no’s on it aswell. I need to book her in to do the front & rear belts but I might see how much they want to do it at the same time if too much looks like I’ll be getting dirty 😞

Not saying the fault is the drain tube, it was only a suggestion to investigate the possibility. The other thing is what colour is the smoke? oil would be blue, fuel probably black etc.

Cheers
Col

Drop two or more 16oz cans of Sea Foam fuel stabiliser (£23 for two off eBay) into the fuel tank and go for a blast. Blows out the cobwebs. Mine was running just fine but I did this anyway for a giggle and it’s now running silky smooth, it’s delightful. But apparently in the US folks use this as a first step in triaging engine niggles.

My next experiment will be with a bottle of Archoil AR6400-D MAX Professional Diesel Engine, Turbo, DPF & CAT Cleaner Concentrate 400ml with a full refuel on top, then a blast down to St Tropez.

I’ll pair this with adding a few mls of this on fuel full ups: - Archoil AR6900-D Max Advanced Diesel Fuel Synthesis - 1 Litre
I ordered this Archoil stuff from powerenhancer.co.uk and got a discount with code AUDICLUB (I’m not aware of any site sponsors selling this stuff) L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!
