Who has an Evoque on here and does it’s turbo whistle?!

My husband has an RRS and I have bought a 2015 2.2 dynamic evoque so we have his and hers range rovers! Laughing

I bought from a non Land Rover garage and I have had it 3 weeks and it’s currently back with the garage I bought it from to look at a turbo whistle it has. On accelerating and gear changes up under accelation it sounds like an ambulance siren.

First day got the car it had red triangle warning on dash and limp mode so it went back. It was returned after having dpf sensor replaced. After a week of driving I had a list of things to be looked at and the turbo whistle was one, the gear selector dial getting hot and the brakes failed for the 2nd time in 3 weeks when I was driving back to the garage.

They have had car 2 days (not Land Rover garage but a specialist garage that can deal with land rovers). Got a call tonight to say it’s driving mint, it does whistle but they all do it so not a fault. The garage had another evoque in and that whistled too as he demonstrated to the sales guy that is sorting my car. So they can’t fix it because it’s normal! Then the gear selector yes it does get hot but it’s not a fault and if they replace the module it will just do it again down the line and the brakes because it’s intermittent they couldn’t get it to replicate it!

How many of you on here have an evoque and how many of you have one that whistles and is classed as normal?!

I now have to take it to another garage at our expense for a second opinion! Then have it repaired under our warranty now surely this should be completed by the supplying garage?

Not sure where I stand here as in all the 12 months of researching the car (owning an RRS for a good number of years we know what to expect! Rolling Eyes ) I’ve not come across anywhere that people say the car whistles and it’s normal!

What next and can anyone recommend a good indy or somewhere I can get this problem checked out/confirmed not right in the Huddersfield area?

I’ve also got a my15 64 plate evoque 2.2 as well as the RRS & I haven’t noticed the turbo whistle when I’m driving if,in fact you can hardly hear the engine at all.Sounds like you could have a problem with the turbo, might be worth messaging Disco mickey on here & ask him as he is the LR tech guy. Andy.

Thanks tyrefitter that’s good to know Smile . I’m more peeved at being told ‘oh they all do that!’ Whistle And now got to trail around getting second opinions! Sick of trailing backwards and forwards with the car as the garage is 45 miles away!

I’ll contact Disco Mickey and see if he comes across the whistle often and if ‘all’ evoque make the noise as I’ve been told. Big Cry

No Evoque does not normally make any turbo noise - your garage doesn’t know what they are talking about. Tell them to take it at their expense to be fixed at a main dealers or a make specialist Independent
I’ve owned both a 2011 2.2 Dynamic 6 Speed auto Coupe and a 2014 2.2 Dynamic 9 speed auto 5 door and neither suffered any sort of turbo noise - as tryefitter says both were almost silent unless I was using at high revs. Try asking the question on the Evoque forum at www.BabyRR.com - it is a sister forum to this one, also the discosport and freel2 fourms as the same 2.2 engines were used in Freelander 2 and Discovery Sport. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Sounds like you have a turbo bearing problem that is allowing the shaft to wobble. Most likely due to oil dilution on this engine. A common problem we've seen many times and replaced many turbos.

Thank you everyone! Good to hear I’m not the only one that thinks this is not normal!

Does the 2.2 diesel on the older evoque suffer with oil dilution too? I thought it was just the newer 2.0 ingenium engines that suffered with this problem? I stayed away from the newer 2.0 engine thinking the 2.2 was the better of the two! Doh! Embarassed

Not sure I want to take to a Land Rover dealership and thinking an indy would be better. Does anyone know a good indy of dealership near Huddersfield or Manchester as I work in Manchester? Would be stuck to get home though if they needed to keep my car for a day or two Neutral . I have pm Disco Mikey in the hope he has some info and going to be in our area sometime soon!

All turbos have a little bit of whistle if you listen out for it. If I were you I’d got to another dealer and test drive a couple of similar cars (engine and age) to yours. See for yourself if “they all do that”. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

When you say they all whistle do you mean they sound like there’s ambulance sirens? I have what sounds like ambulance sirens in the distance kind of noise that as the auto changes gear on accelerating changes the noise like a siren. This is normal in all evoques?!

On my old 2.2 Evoque, I could occasionally hear the turbo, but it was never loud or intrusive. Most of the time I would say I didn't notice it.
