The problem with AT tyres is that the tread blocks tend to be a little firmer than road tyres,

I've been running Avon ZX7's, good price and A rated in wet. Work fine for me as I am seldom off road and they are reasonably quiet as well. |

The Avon isn't an AT tyre though.

I know but as I read his post he wasn't directly asking for an AT type recommendation, said it would be ideal but would consider something non AT suitable for a fast B road. |

Thanks both, a bit of off-road capability would be good but not essential.

It's coming up tyre time for me aswell so Father Jack, have you been through a winter with those Avons yet? If so how did they do, any snow or ice etc.?

I haven't had any snow of any real significance since fitting though down to minus 5c has been coldest. They were fine. |

Would have to say that my AT3s are absolutely fine and sure-footed in the rain and I have full confidence in them. I drive a lot of B & unclassified, tend not to hang about and I've never worried about them even in torrential rain. Perhaps the only difference is am on 255/55/19s and the extra sidewall provides a bit more flex and thus grip. |

Thanks Puff I reckon it’s the extra width that makes mine horrid in the wet. |
