Brake Vibration

Morning all.

Around a year back I started to get a wobble on the steering wheel and vibration on the brake peddle when braking from 60 down to 30 on my 2011 RRS HSE. I had previously changed both rear discs and pads and this made no difference. Around a month back I changed front discs and pads and whilst there was a little improvement the vibration is still there. Ive changed discs and pads on all sorts of cars for years and usually changing the front discs sorts out the problem (warped). All hub faces and discs faces were clean and debris free on replacement so I'm not sure what it could be. I also know that I have worn anti roll bar bushes and anti-roll bar control rods bushes but cant see how that contributes to the problem. Front calipers were fine and moving freely too so the RRS should pull up smoothly. Just wondering if anyone has any further experience here as this is simply driving me mad..
The final thing also to mention is that I have a slight buckle on one rear alloy (just informed after replacing tyre) but that seems to have no detrimental effect on performance either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rob

Good morning Young Rob...

i too have had similar issues and it turned out to be a sticking piston in the brake calipers. I ended up servicing all the calipers and now i have very smooth and predictive breaking. other members have just bought replacement calipers as the time cost difference is approx £50 a corner and 40 mins shorter.

I would be concerned about the buckled wheel as this will vibrate and put extra strain on the bearing and bushes. try fitting your spear wheel in place for the buckled wheel and take it for a spin to see weather this also improves reduces the wobble.

As PC has said,, I suffered from similar issues, very slight steering wheel vibration at 60/70 mph and brake pedal vibration when braking from higher speeds. I had the wheels balanced but was told the front wheels were slightly oval rather than buckled. Had them squeezed back into shape and all has been fine sine. The pedal problem was a sticking caliper / piston/ slider, my indie sorted it during a refurb of the EPB system, managing to free it off and it's been trouble free since. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Gogsy, how did you go about getting the wheels squeezed back to shape? My wheels were recently balanced because they were way out but I still have a slight vibration around the 60-70 mark so I'm thinking mine may be out of shape. Kev

Sound advice and thank you both. I'll look for a service kit and strip it down.

Good point on rear wheel too re bearings.

Ill let you know the outcome.

Thanks

Kev,, when i had the wheels balanced the guy said they where out of shape,, slightly oval rather than twisted, I had them balance them out as best as they could and fitted to the rear. When I had the time I took them to a alloy wheel refurb specialist who guaranteed to put them back into shape,, cost about £ 50 per wheel I think. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Great, thanks. I'll do a little bit of ringing around to see if anyone around here does it. Kev
