The amber warning has appeared for me advising me to drive for 20 minutes at over 40mph. I live in central London and that is actually a lot more difficult than it sounds. I've a trip a week from now when I will do plenty of fast miles but until then unless I hear otherwise the car will be just used for very short, slow, local journeys.

Does anyone know how urgent it is to address the issue before it turns into a red warning?

Should I make a special trip or will the one a week from now be fine.

Thanks for any advice.

it came on on mine once but i did not have enough fuel to do the drive. when i stopped at the garage to fill up the alarm was gone when i started the car again and its never come back. I did not do the 20 min drive then but a couple of days later had a motorway drive to do.

With odd flake of snow descending on London's streets causing havoc is it worth taking the car out anyway................ ? If possible take it for a long fast drive around the Outer London Race Track aka the M25, or along a good long stretch of another motorway before you end up having to be taken into a dealership on a flatbed truck. IIRC it is one of the things that LRA will not attend to you for as it is "self induced" by not observing the warnings. Remember that there is also a set procedure to trigger the DPF regeneration with the revs at above a certain level for 20 minutes or whatever it is. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've had my amber light on 4x in 6k miles. With the lower exterior temps it's going to be a bit less easy to get the dpf up to full heat, especially around town. From my experience, the easiest thing to do is to drive the car for about 25/30 mins, and then find somewhere to floor the car in sport mode and in a higher gear than necessary, for about 10 mins, trying to avoid being caught for speeding. This should knock the light off.
It does seem a bit barmy that one has to drive extra miles in order to reduce emissions. If memory serves me correctly, the regenerative cycle occurs between 350/500 miles, so if the car is not up to full heat during that period, regeneration may not occur, so it has to be forcibly effected. So, in my last case I drove at speed from Devon up North, and then a week later after 25 miles or so the light came on because the cycle occurred at the wrong time. I guess it's a bit like PMT.

I've never had mine come on, I rarely do commuting type driving or a lot of city centre driving and most of mine is on fast A roads of central scotland and long motorway hauls to london and back, with a bit of offroad use in between! Would interesting to know if the Hybrid RRS suffers from DPF issues in town as it doesn't have very much range on electricity. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I had a similar problem - Drove with it for a couple of days, went for a few blasts on the motorway and it wouldn't clear. Eventually I got to the 'red light' (See my previous post on here http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic42522.html)

I would advise to call out Land Rover assist ASAP, as the technician informed me there is a known fault which required a software update as the sensor was too sensitive. He required a couple of hours to update and take it for a spin (No charge). Been great ever since yet my journeys haven't changed.

I did 6000 miles since Sep last year and did not get this, as my journey involved mostly motorway but this year I am going to be driving shorter distances during the week. As a precaution I booked in to get the software update, Q519 - 3L V6D GEN2 DPF Amber lights and to get the missing spare wheel lift strap (Q554).

My exhaust filter nearly full came on this morning,,took it for a 20min run in sport mode,,stopped car restarted & light has now gone off so hopefully it’s done the regen. Andy.

Just to add fuel to the fire.
I think I remember this topic a while back on either the Disco or Freelander Forum. Basically adding 2T (two stoke oil) to the fuel tank helped with keeping the DPF clean. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Not the old 2-stoke idea again!  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On the 2 stroke thing in the interests of balance there are some who think it a good idea, others who say unnecessary on modern cars, some who say it is not a good idea on common rail high pressure diesels and/or cars with dpf's at all ! Do your reasearch first if even considering it.

On topic, diesels with dpf's will fill the filter if just pottering about on wee local journeys. I have only had this pop up 3 times in 50k miles on my 2012 and on every occasion it was when I had not done any decent journeys for a while. 30 mins at speed and higher revs worked each time.

Have to say the DPF regen thing mystifies me.

My Euro 6 RRS was used exclusively on longer, often Mway journeys, but gave me no end of issues with failed regens and oil dilution, to the point where I unloaded it.

The wife's Ewok (admittedly Euro5) is used on such short journeys that I have to top the battery up every three weeks, and never a DPF issue ever in 5 years.

Needed a new turbo last year at 20k miles, mind you.  MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
