MY Year

I have searched for a while and cant find the answer,

My RRS was first registered 21.12.2012 so is it an MY12 or MY13?

Does it change on a date in the year ?
or if not how is it calculated..

Also when I search with my VIN in Topix or other it states my car is a
2013 But it was first registered 21.12.2012 so how can it be a 2013?

Thanks for any help you can give to help me understand this better.. ===========================================

It will be a my13,,they usually bring the my next year out about sept Oct ish.Ive never really understood why,,if it’s a 2012 car it a 2012 car not a 2013 unless it’s registered after 01/01/13 & so on,,,,it’s probably just so the car companies can say you’ve got next years model. Andy.

New MY cars usually start after the August plant shutdown. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

A 21/12/12 registration is definitely a 2013MY unless it was a car bought from dealer stock after the change of model year, and at a nice discount. I bought my TDV8 in October 2007 and it was first registered with me as the first and only keeper then but I got an £11000 discount for taking an “old” model year. Crazy thing was the only difference between 2007 and 2008MY were some new colours, the car got integrated hands free Bluetooth without needing the phone cradle under the cubby box lid and for 2008 the steering column became electrically adjustable with a memory. Not having the handsfree phone system or an electrically adjustable steering column didn’t really bother me as I’m the only driver of allof my cars and in those days I didn’t have a mobile phone with Bluetooth anyway! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thank you all for the info,,

I now know its a MY13..

Just guess its a vin check quirk..
and it is a 2012..not 2013 on a 62 plate.. ===========================================

The VIN tells you what model year it is. Each year has a code number / letter pair just before the last 6 digits. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

As RRSTDV8 has said above, there is a code letter in the VIN for the year, mine is 2011 made 2012 MY with a C code for 2012. Yours should be a D code so something like DA79xxx. This also extends to the Engineering numbers found in Topix so a CH32 began in 2012 and a DH in 2013, EH in 2014 etc.

Also, the vin sequence isn’t specific to a model either. I only recently realised that the Vin was sequential across all models so a RRS VIN of CA71234 could be followed by a Disco 4 VIN of CA71235 followed by a FFRR VIN of CA71236.

During my mods I’ve been hooking up the modules to the CAN to find the VIN of the car they came from, then looking at the as built CCF to find which files to configure in my CCF to get them to work. So far I’ve got later Surround Cameras, Dual View and I’m finishing the 2015 RSE retro fit. Then it will be Water Wading, Blind spot and Chromeatic dimming wing mirrors (mirrors already fitted but needs wiring up). 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)
2012 5.0 SC AB. Sadly written off by a campervan
23 plate Focus ST (Current)
1942 VEP Ford GPW Jeep (Willys) (Current)
1943 Whites M16 Halftrack (Current)
16 plate Eurofighter Typhoon, 2 x Eurojet engines with 20,000lbs thrust each. 1380mph

Hi,

MY traditionally has run from October(ish).

It used to be triggered by the Earls Court Motor Show which was THE big show of the year when we had a British car industry.

It’s just stayed that way since.
